Im surprised how much finesse is required to make things look as close to real life as possible. I suppose it only matters if you are doing very close up and detailed renders. Plus it shows the limitations of making patterns in Clo with a view to real production garments. Clearly a sample would always be needed to check pattern fit.

I agree. While some product groups are more 3D-friendly than others, a physical sample is necessary. There will always be some gap in accuracy. We once did a test with a causal jacket. Patternmakers wanted to perfect the fit, so they made 5 slightly different patterns of the same jacket, and made them into physical samples. We made them in 3D as well, and while in real samples you could see the differences in fit, in 3D they all looked pretty much the same.
