I'm honestly shocked at how well this game was presented. Video games tend to fail at emphasizing horror for me, as their "scary" moments don't present themselves in a manner that I can imagine experiencing. This game did everything perfectly. The sounds, the images, the story. I love that they bothered to include multiple solutions, and that everything is polished in a way where the multiple endings make sense and nothing contradicts a particular path. 10 out of 10. Absolutely priceless art presented as a video game.

If i may say so myself, another shame is that the friday the 13th game was NOT made to be played like Until Dawn. I love UD, one of my favorite games for PS4, and I would just love to see more horror games like that, of course there IS heavy rain and maybe beyond: two souls, but still, I would love another good horror game just like until dawn

The only real complaint I had when I played this game was that the character you play walks so slowly that it is a little frustrating, but I kinda understand why they chose to have her be that slow. It's to have you take time to see your environment and let the tension sink in. Still, I did see it as a little annoying. Great game, though.

I've always thought that this game was inspired by Dario Argento's movie "Phenomena". It has to be. It's too similar to be just a coincidence. The look of the character, her name, the place, the killer. It looks like the movie !

Without a doubt this game is product of the times of video rental shops. Dario Argento's movies were one of the popular ones among Japanese horror movie kids (including me) at that time. We were also a video game fans so it's natural to think that the game based on these movie would be awesome. This video game is roughly based on "Suspiria", "Phenomena" and the killer from "The Burning" movie I believe...it was the time where video games were way behind the movie when it comes to its narrative elements. "HUMAN" company, who made this game, also made "Twilight Syndrome" based on Japanese ghost story and urban legend bankrupted in 2000 unfortunately. I still like the vibe of these video games but if these games were made with modern technology, it would look silly, I guess. These games only work well when they're combined with the imagination of the player. Sometimes lack of hi-tech yields better result for art styles...I think that's the reason some indie developers still use "old fashioned" art style for their games today.

I disagree. The horror elements of Clock Tower: First Fear are enhanced BECAUSE of the dark and intentional sprite art. By no means are these graphics bad or irrelevant to the gameplay. If anything, it enhances the plot with pure atmosphere.

Thanks for the video ! I'm finishing a screenshot Let's Play of Clock Tower on PS1, and I wanted to see what the original game was like to get a better understanding of the series. A video without commentary was nice for that... Even though, with its barebone story, I'm getting more questions than answers. I guess it was innovative for 1995 and the SNES. I tought CT on PS1 was silly at times (or downright ridiculous when you can overpower Scissor Man by making him fall on an obvious rope, for example) but the First Fear just feels... Dry. Short yet confusing, and when you play smoothly like you did, you are barely chased by Scissor Man. It begs for more backstory ! I see why people could be scared by this series, but at the same time, I really fail to see how could it be one of the best in its genre. Thanks again anyway, I might look at more of your videos.

+Aro Naar If Sweet Home (an RPG of the NES) could be considered the great-grandfather of the Survival Horror genre, and Alone in the Dark and Resident Evil as the fathers. Clocktower surely was the grandfather. It didn't have any competition at the time it was realesed, so surely it was not the best experience, nor the worst... It was the only experience of the genre known to gamers (Aside, of course, Sweet Home). First Fear actually adds one tiny little bit to the story, and it only expands more into CT2. Well, i did not expect much from an game that tried to bring to games the horror movie experience. xD
