Despite common belief clock towers did already exist in medieval times. They weren't as common as later in the early modern age but also existed in the late medieval age (1200 - 1500 AD). The few medieval clock towers were often implimented into a church or located closely to the town center as the towers were used to indicate when to start working, praying, etc. Portable watches were invented later and thus medieval citizens had to rely on clocktowers, sundials, etc. Only but a few were able to afford portable watches after the first watchmaker guilds were established around 1450 AD which is (depending on the region) just barely still in the late medieval age..

For new-comers to this video like myself, here is some advice. When following this, try to mix up the stone brick with other things. In some case (Like the fencing), try swapping out with a different fencing. Basically, experiment with this tutorial, and dont rely 100% on it. My "copy" of this build, is nothing like it. I had swapped things out as I was following this guide, the lower floor has 4 entrances (one for each side) and more. So basically, if you feel that the usage of Stonebrick is a bit too heavy, ass in some variants or just other blocks, to break up the monotony.

In my honest opinion, I feel like there builds rely too much on stonebrick. None of them seem to pop out since their overall texture is bland :/ Would you be able to make builds with other materials as well? Such as Brick, Nether Brick and wood variations?
@CollegeWizards
@CollegeWizards 10 жыл бұрын
Everything is interchangeable, if you know what goes well together. I'm currently working on a mansion and in the tutorial the guy uses brick and oak wood but I'm building it out of nether brick and jungle wood instead to give more of a 'fire' feel to the whole thing. Tutorials don't have to be followed to the letter, and in fact I almost never follow them exactly as they say. If you think it's bland why not try following the tutorial but using the materials you suggested? I do think this particular clock tower would look lovely in brick, and it would make everything pop a little more.
@idunnoimjustbored
@idunnoimjustbored 10 жыл бұрын
CollegeWizards I never follow the tutorials, I just watch the video to see if I could find useful ideas. I just think variation could help Madness here and there. Kargeth from left to right just looks like a huge cluster of wood and stone to me, and I feel like it needs one iconic color :)

***** Since when wasn't brick a medieval tool? Clay was a resource found everywhere. I'm not bashing on realistic features when this is Minecraft.....a video game....based on cubes.
@dragonplaysaj1354
@dragonplaysaj1354 8 жыл бұрын
Gabriel De laSoul Well, if you prefer, you can simply use the same layout, but change the blocks to chose. Also, I think he's using stone brick, because he is using a medieval theme. It may seem somewhat "bland" and I think he's done tutorials with other blocks. With nether brick it would pop out, maybe use some lave pillars even. Especially if you're going for a certain theme in your builds/town. His tutorials can also be used for inspiration, and don't have to copied exactly.
@dragonplaysaj1354
@dragonplaysaj1354 8 жыл бұрын
Gabriel De laSoul True, Brick was a medieval tool. But it does;t come to mind as quickly as stone honestly. Also most medieval architectures are made with stone related material.

+Sergeant_ Chris The entire point of his channel is to make great builds without texture packs for people who don't want to use them. You, yourself, can build them and then use the texture pack but I don't think it would correspond with his style to use a texture pack in the video.
