Similar to Tap Dance! It can also be called “Power Tap.” Bellhop dance at a National Clogging Competition. Quick feet, precise arm movements, and great showmanship!

The song they are clogging to is bei mir bistu shein, translation by me you are pretty. It's a Yiddish song from 1932. Cover of this was done by The Andrew Sisters, Barry Sisters, among others. This reminds me of my youth, I'm 72 and one of the languages I spoke as a child was Yiddish.

That's so special. My father taught German in high school. And took our family to visit Europe and live in Spain when I was only 8 years old. I learned how much fun the different cultures were and the museums and castles fascinated me. Both my parents got into clogging when I was in high school. And I've been wanting to get back into it myself. Hopefully I will find a place to learn again here in California. 😊

What a great troop and the song is beyond excellent!! .. the Andrews sisters -Bei Mir Bist Du Schon (means you're grand). You should use the Andrews sisters recording because it has everything that this recording lacks .. you could speed it up like they do on the little gear here on youtube. My favorite feature. The most perfect cloggers I've ever seen. I think the sound person for the stage speakers just didnt have the sound up loud enough.

I wonder if anyone remembers the tune playing, which was a jazz hit song, I believe, from the 1940's, entitled "Ba Mir Bistu Shein" (please let me know if I spelled this incorrectly, thank you). I think it is Yiddish, but could be German.

@ammandahall35213 жыл бұрын
They're clogging shoes. Tap shoes only have one tap on each toe and one on each heel. These have two nailed together so they make a more jingly sound when they dance.

gjm1953 The shoes they have are clogs, which are like taps, but are loose to make louder sounds and a larger variety of sounds. Do a search online and others explain the difference between clogging and tap dance better than me.
@morrisonsrocks6 жыл бұрын
I have no experience whatsoever aside from watching youtube videos, but I'd say, that tap uses more of a jumping step, like the Irish, the cloggers move their knees more and use more space I think. There's a "battle" video somewhere, where Tap, Clogging and Irish Side Step is compared, watch that for a real explanation :D
@fairlyvague826 жыл бұрын

I've been a clogger for several years. We dance on the downbeat and tap and Irish dancers - well, dance on the UPbeat of a song. We have softer taps that are doubled in the front to make more sound. Taps on tap shoes make a clear, hard sound compared to clogging taps. We also have taps on the front of the toe and on the heel. Cloggers have their own steps but sometimes tap and clog steps do run into each other. We also have Irish steps that are slightly different than pure Irish steps but look similar. Hope this helps!
