Been to Clonmany a few times. Nice place and friendly helpful people. I went via Mamore Gap which gave incredible scenic views out into the Atlantic. We met one chap on a beach called Binion and we got talking.. This was in the late 60s and he said that he had relatives who were buried in the sand but their remains were removed later to the church Cemetry. He said it was a sad place for him. I stupidity assumed that they drowned but he said No They were murdered by a British terrorist group called the "Black and Tans" as an act of revenge. Their bodies were dumped into a hole in the sand, Parents and children .. It was such a beautiful peaceful place that I could not imagine such a thing could have happened there. Years later I remembered what the old guy had told me and I researched it. It was very unpleasant reading. The old guy had been telling the truth.

All the most notable events that occurred in Clonmany are detailed on wikipedia. Maybe it is the incident that occurred at Binion, on 10 May 1921, in which two members of the RIC were ambushed, that you are describing.

@@steve-rc1iq I'm not sure , It must be 35 to 40 years ago since I looked it up. The murder of the family could possibly be in retaliation. Its possible that I got it mixed up with something else. I am old enough to do that
