Justin Pearson has been a vital and prolific force in underground music since the 90s. His many bands, including the Locust, Dead Cross, Head Wound City, and Retox, have made an indelible mark on the canon of heavy music, and his long-running label, Three One G, has been an important platform for numerous like-minded experimentalists.
We talk about “Annoying” as a genre, healthy inter-band competition on tour, the uniqueness of the 90s San Diego hardcore scene, and our different experiences at the same Marilyn Manson afterparty.

Skramz was a millennial invention, actually-- coined by Alex Bigmin of the band, Seeing Means More in the mid-to-late aughts. I'm pretty sure it was something jokingly coined to differentiate stuff like Portraits of Past or Orchid from the more popular scene bands at the time that were also called "screamo" but come from a different stylistic lineage. IIRC it may have been on a forum like Cross My Heart With A Knife (CMHWAK).

The skramz forums back in the day (2000s/early 2010s) were crazy man.

Only caught the very end of the stream but super excited to go back and rewatch-also the first Last Things stream where I can say I've played shows with both participants (I'm Hamish by the way lol)

Extra Life will do a pretty extensive EU tour next May, probably with a new record but not sure. We'll hit the Netherlands for sure.

Pretty sure the Extra Life show in 2012 was at Tin Can Ale House. I was there and it was sick.

some people say skramz is more melodic and has other sonic differences or maybe vice versa but I feel like screamo / skramz typically are synonymous

I think it was an attempt to separate Angel Hair/Portaits of Past from, like, Thursday. But; everyone wants to be unique, but in a group. We used to use shoegaze and dream pop interchangeably; now folks insist they are different.

didn't listen all the way through, skipped around a bit. just came back from listening to some of you redpill vid (bookmarked to finish at a later time.) Anyway, landed on the disbelief that a racist could like Dave Chappelle. I'm from a similar hxc scene, antiracist blahblahblah where everything was black n white (no pun lol) and i can write a book on the how naive we were/are on race but i'll just say: that disbelief comes from the same simplicity of viewing people that not only drives people to racism but is also their (the racists') viewpoint looking out. That's to say, nobody's really understanding anybody or anything. We're viewing each other one dimensionally. It's the same thing that led a white guy threatening violence toward me a brown guy over having a riot scene on my facebook banner that he claimed was racist (there were no identifying symbols or people in the picture but somehow he "knew" and my even having it was enough to kill me (looked it up btw and the pic was not from anything to do with race ftr).

He's a talented musician and i love the Locust but his comments about religion are so cringe and cliche. Its like the squidward "daring today aren't we" meme.
