hey Alan, just wondering with the fish you put in the esky. do you bleed them while you’re out there? i’ve heard from a number of people you’re ‘supposed’ to for the sake of flavour or something. wondering what your opinion is. thanks!
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
Yeah any fish you plan to keep for eating its always encourage to spike them or bleed them once you have caught them then put on ice so you dont spoil theflesh
@AlessailaSC Жыл бұрын
@@fishingmad are there any concerns about doing this on the open water like you've done in other kayaking videos say catching snapper? appreciate the response :)

Did you mean floating stabilisers for the kayak ?

Unreal Al, yup speed boat drivers......hmmmmm. Good stuff.
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
yeah, this was in neutral ground right near the crossing, there is never any need for any boat, jetski, kayak or any other fishing vessel to get so close to others. It happens in systems like tis and PPB all the time. Was whiting fishing yesterday, not a boat within 10 ks, than a boat pulls up literally 10 meters away and anchors up.
@johnsipolis2 жыл бұрын
Looked like a fun day Alan except for those boats, you're right they do it on purpose and they don't care, same as the jetskis, hoons on water except for the fishermen. Your kayak is a weapon, great to fall back on.
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
Thanks John, yeah the Kayak is excellent, im really happy with all the minor tweaks to it over the years, 100% there is never any need for any boat, jetski, kayak or any other fishing vessel to get so close to others. It happens in systems like this all the time. I was whiting fishing PPB yesterday, not a boat within 10 ks, than a boat pulls up literally 10 meters away and anchors up.

Lake Nagambie is shocking for boats and jet skis passing too close and too fast. I avoid during the weekends and use the river downstream if it's not flowing too fast.
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
Yeah i bet its crazy down there, the boat and jetski traffic would be crazy. Must admit ive been avoiding weekends to for similar reasons.

This vid we had such a short window for fishing as the jetskis were insane there, racing through. Right at the end i threw some 6 cm soft vibes. ill have to do that next time 100%. I'm pretty sure they will go awesome im hanging to give some nedrigs a go to. I watched your vid with the vibes awesome stuff !! I've got some very similar vibes ill have o try

@@fishingmad thanks mate I appreciate that! I have some of those nedlockz too and heard they work a treat in there too. I'm keen to start throwing some Spinnerbaits in the snags in those skinny areas this summer too
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the spinnerbaits would work a treat, and prob increase chances of a cod or yella. Ive been chatting a lot with the creator of Savage Gear and his a big fan of the new nedrigs and texas style rigs for reddies so im really keen to trial them at some stage. Only if there was more time in the day

Hi Alan need some advice pls! Going to paynesville this weekend thinking about taking my boat but unsure about weather?? Dosnt look great
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
Hi Travis, ive just seen your email, ill respond briefly here and in more detail via email. The weather looks really strange this weekend, high winds sat afternoon and sun afternoon. However Sat morn and Sun morn and Mon look like they would be OK for fishing. The beauty about Paynesville is you can move around the system and find some cover. You would prob be OK with the boat just gotta launch early, and spend some time finding some sheltered spots and than be off the water by midday or so depending on whether the forecast is accurate. I hope that helps.

You won't like me playing devil's advocate here but as both an avid kayak fisher & avid water skier I know both sides of this equation very well. Skiers must stay within designated areas which that area clearly is. There is also rules about which direction they must travel. It appears to me that you have knowingly chosen to fish in a skiing area & from the direction the boats are travelling it appears you are right on the ski path. So I would hazard an educated guess that it in fact you that is encroaching on them not the other way around. As kayak anglers it is our responsibility to be aware of the rules for other wayer users & not encroach on them. We have the ability to access anywhere we choose. Others do not have that luxury & we need to respect that & accept the consequences of our own choices.

Hey Jeff, thanks for the kind words !! Honestly not 100% sure about Macedon reservoir, one of my mates fishes around Macedon and catches plenty of redfin and carp so could possible be the same spot. A few other decent areas not to far away from there aswell which fish well. Have a great xmaa and new year too !!

Great video mate! I’ve fished there many times using bait and only caught carp, and I’ve been wanting to try out some plastics. What kind of plastic would you recommend for a first time user? Also what size jig heads should I use?
@fishingmad2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Yeah no shortage of carp at Melton, the beauty about plastics is you don't catch to many with them. Check out this video it shows exactly the gear i use when fishing there kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpfXiaaqnal5mM0 for starter 100% go with a 2.5 inch grub in bright or natural colours on a 1/8 2/0 jig head. Just cast and slow roll and add some pauses. This also might be helpful fishingmad.com.au/review/best-redfin-lures-2021 cheers

If that’s Melton weir then you aren’t allowed to cross under the bridge as it’s property for the Melton boat club.
@knjohd2 жыл бұрын
Yep, somebody is in the wrong place there, the boats are not allowed upstream of the bridge and the kayaks are not allowed downstream of the bridge.
