This song is bitter sweet for me and almost brings on tears. I dedicated it to my wife at our wedding 40 years ago. Around that same time we saw Karen and Richard live in concert in El Paso. I wonder what could have been if she had only conquered the personal demons and stayed with us longer.

She will always be young and beautiful to me. The best voice the industry will ever have. As I child her voice called to us kids. My Mother loved her too. A true voice. Unlike 4 octave crap today. Monotone and sounds like yelling. Her voice was for a better term angelic. We will always love you Karen.

Karen Carpenter had an Angel's voice, pure clear, and bright, sincere, haunting, honest and real, it came through every time she opened up her mouth to sing....we will probably never have another talent like hers on this earth again. I am glad I was a teenager when their hits were top 40....I bought all of their albums, and still hurt this day now that she is passed away 30 years ago....still miss you lovely Karen, rest in peace with the dear Angels of God......

Dear God, Thank you for this Angelic & Beautiful Lady that we know as Karen Carpenter. Although it's very easy to cry & it hurts so bad with each passing day that goes by, it's conforting to know that with each of these passing days that go by, all of us are that much closer to hearing Karen sing again.

Personally, I enjoy knowing that young people are discovering her music and sharing it with people their age. That is the what exemplifies "legend." If we hope her music will live on for the ages, it needs to be passed to younger generations. End of story.

I totally agree with you Chris Hough. Also, I would like to add that during this performance, Karen was not anorexic yet; in fact, in 1973 Karen had normal weight on. It’s too bad they didn’t hire people to take care of their outfit and makeup, then Karen would have seen how beautiful she was before she did that solo album during which she actually saw herself as beautiful and sexy for the first time. Then maybe she would have stopped starving herself to death.

Wow to think we had a living Angel on earth named Karen Carpenter- One very special Lady that we we're fortunate enough to have here for 32 years (not long enough I know) What Karen has Left us however is the greatest Christmas present anyone could ever receive. Karen would be very proud of Richard on how well he's went on over the years. Merry Christmas everyone GB KC

The year was 1972. I was in Jr. high school and the first girl I ever asked to dance was Christy H. The dancing back then was like a slow moving bear hug, the slower you moved the better you were. The Carpenters record, Close to you came on and I will never forget that dance. We moved slow and easy....after that dance we were a couple and definetly two of the cool kids at the school.
