Its a song to the people obsessed with someone they could never love. For people who only know rejection and failure, but the beauty of art is that each individual creates different opinions, none are wrong. This song, to me stands for someone who hates themselves due to the fact that the world measures success in significant others, so if you do not have a long term lover, the world acts like your a madman. Along that line, if you try to buy love or cling to someone they will hate you more than being single. Its a catch-22

I think you're onto something there. If I were to follow that line, I'd also say that it's not sympathetic to the infatuated, but is rather about how they spiral into obsessed desperation about their feelings. Like the pressures have been internalized beyond what anyone else has actually imposed on them.

I think Trent mentioned that he never wanted this song to be seen as a mindless sexy song, but more like something to add to the story of TDS. And this song has been played in strip clubs which proves your point. People really misunderstand it's true meaning.

Sex has been sold for centuries, makes all feel young and feels good. Could it be we buy the market with hopes it is our solution for our self esteem. Face it the journey is sometimes more exciting than its end. But when we truly reach that end, we are blissfully satisfied, least I am. I like this song because it seems to describe love, lust, passion or whatever. Yep it’s about SEX. Just an opinion from an old man.
@hannahnightshadewolf92193 жыл бұрын
I can't explain. Exactly why I relate to this... But I know it has something to do with my hypersexuality. ( A trauma response/ Making everything sexual ALL the time even if it isn't supposed to be that way) As someone in a relationship I feel guilty A lot for feeling this way, I felt like a pervert. I even talked to my partner about it and they told me I wasn't a pervert and I shouldn't feel guilty. But it just- gets to you when you think about IT all the time. It's overwhelming.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't see this as a "sexy" song. If you listen to it in the context of the Downward Spiral album, it's about a man who is losing his mind, but is somewhat brought back to his senses by a sexual encounter. By the end of the album, he loses his mind anyways and ends up killing himself (The closing track, "Hurt", being his suicide note). So while this song is romantic in a very warped way, "sexy" is hardly how I'd describe it.
@JMarston198410 жыл бұрын
I agree. It's a sexual song, but in the darkest sense. Like the type of sexual encounter you wake up the next day feeling guilty and dirty about. But I don't think that the song is really about sex. Deeper than that.

Been listening to NIN since I was 13 and now I'm 30. This song is about a man who so lost in his personal mental pain that loveless sex, and drugs if the rest of the album is any indication, are his only true form of escape. As someone who's addicted to prostitutes, it's a very dark but relatable song. "You are the reason I stay alive" He's basically saying the only reason he doesn't off himself is because of his addiction to coochie keeps him going. Top tune.

Nothing describes the mindset of a DOM than this song. It's expressing gratitude to someone who let's them do the most depraved to them, because while you might be in a position of power, you still are someone who needs something.

@yorrrinn4 жыл бұрын
@@crimson4509 Well, as you may know the song is about sex yes, but it’s deeper than that. The song is about escaping su!c!d@l thoughts and s3lf h@rm through sex and finding that trust and bond to love yourself through someone else. Now i didn’t have this experience but i struggle with su!c!d3 and hearing that this person struggled with the things i did but they found a way out made me feel like i could get out of it. Maybe not in the same way but it has and still gives me hope!
