Well said! Religions come with preconceived notions of God. There's only one Creator, so all notions of God are bound to contain erroneous beliefs. It's worse since it's known that the universe is not just limited to our earth. Since humans are ignorant of what's out there, their perceptions of God is bound to be totally wrong!
@spiralsun13 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is shocking. Even your college professors. 😳🤦♀️🤷♀️ I made a few scientific arguments for the idea in another video in this series and no one else seems to be making them. I actually wrote a book about these things but no one seems to want to read it because it’s like 400 pages and I left graduate school in behavioral neuroscience and evolutionary psychology to write it and it’s dense.... so here it is in a nutshell -the absolute best and irrefutable arguments for god, and it even encompasses aliens-if they exist-and all human religions ALL religions. I think it will be quite helpful: You have to let go of past arguments, in order to see how a god concept is actually a real and predictive theory of the Universe which no other theory can even come close in explanatory and predictive power. You have to understand the paradoxical in the functions of the brain, and understand human and animal epistemology. It’s quite easy to see where god came from and how humans are models of god. All “theories of everything” are laughable if they do not consider brains and the arts along with physics. They have to consider all forms of information. Not just one aspect or another which allows a certain ignorance so that you can say “then a miracle happens” after you discover a Higgs Boson, for example. So if you really want to predict everything then you will be interested in a real theory of actually everything. There are scientific theories of god and to me, in its overall epistemological ideals, science itself is the greatest religion of all. It searches for the eternal in the fleeting. Instead of “Thor” we see electricity now. We see more meaning and more power as we unify these eternal principles. We can be more creative as we do so. Eternal Creative power Meaning -sounds like moving toward god to me. 😊 And it is. That’s why I wrote “The Textbook of the Universe: The Genetic Ascent to God” 🥰🤷♀️ I have never seen anyone else provide a theory which even comes close to all I have predicted and explained with this theory. Makes the theory of evolution look like a tinkertoy. All these people who say there isn’t a god are making a “straw man” argument fallacy. They use antiquated ideas of god instead of looking at the direction and epistemology of the entire body of human inquiry. They make fun of our ancestors ideas instead of modernizing them logically-as we did with mystical alchemy which became modern chemistry or Pythagorean mysticism becoming modern geometry. This is absolutely no different. They may not have fully understood what they were talking about and projected the known human attributes onto the idea, but that doesn’t mean that the idea wasn’t a distillation of something real at its core. Once you understand how the universe is constructed as a teaching machine from beyond time then it will be perfectly clear. Meaning is the key. The reason not everyone saw the meaning in feelings of disgust that something invisible “infected” something rotting, is why we did not have a germ theory of disease and why we ridiculed people who advocated it at one time. People who gather knowledge only for their own purposes and lives now tend to want to pontificate on life in general but what they are really doing is projecting their own rationalizations unaware onto reality. A process ironically that led people like me to come up with processes like science to try to get past their deadly self-motivated ignorance that they cling to like a drowning man to a timber in a hurricane. So yeah, the people who are now arguing against god are grasping onto science and using it in self-serving ways to maintain the my-life’s-purpose-rationale, a sort of paving over all blind spots with any spackle that works, so that they can get away with as little thinking as possible. Logically there is no other way that reality and brains can exist, that the actual language of reality could exist, without an eternal center of meaning and creative coherence which our ancestors called god. Everything in the known universe is a set of interlocking symbols. Including you. It constitutes a book which can only be read one way once you understand the symbols and what they actually mean. There is a unified meaning behind all things. Just as there was a unified meaning behind physical phenomena in general which led to our ability with math, science, and symbols in general. So behind all of these things is a larger creative unity of ultimate meaning and selective power. What you see arrayed before you as “Universe” is obviously a teaching machine. An information instrument panel not unlike a human brain.

@@spiralsun1 Interesting, there is progress in time. But I would say this does not make the past obsolete. While mysticism from pythagoras is gone, platonic mathematics has if anything made a return after Godel and Frege. God as a conception may become more clearer with newer information, but I don't think this makes the past ideas of the earlier Church fathers (for example) any less valid. Just conceptualized in a different way. Science is nice, but contrary to its dogmatic materialistic believers, its ultimately rested on mathematical truths. And math itself has always been open to mysticism as much as any natural science.

It is like having a great mountain rising out of the plains. Well, everywhere you look at the mountain, it looks slightly different, depending on where you are looking. If you are up close, if you are far away, if you are to the north, the south, the east or the west-it all looks different, you see. But it is the same mountain. It has not changed with your perspective. You may debate with others about the appearance of the mountain. You are looking from the north and they are looking from the south. Oh, the mountain looks so very different. You argue about its features and its manifestations. To someone up close, it is huge and monumental. To someone at a distance, it is just something out on the horizon. The experience is different. The perspectives are different. But the mountain has not changed. It has not adapted itself to people’s perspective or people’s position around it. ~Marshall Vian Summers

When Einstein gave lectures at U.S. universities, the recurring question that students asked him most was: - Do you believe in God? And he always answered: - I believe in the God of Spinoza. Baruch de Spinoza was a Dutch philosopher considered one of the great rationalists of 17th century philosophy, along with Descartes. (Spinoza) : God would say: Stop praying. What I want you to do is go out into the world and enjoy your life. I want you to sing, have fun and enjoy everything I've made for you. Stop going into those dark, cold temples that you built yourself and saying they are my house. My house is in the mountains, in the woods, rivers, lakes, beaches. That's where I live and there I express my love for you. Stop blaming me for your miserable life; I never told you there was anything wrong with you or that you were a sinner, or that your sexuality was a bad thing. Sex is a gift I have given you and with which you can express your love, your ecstasy, your joy. So don't blame me for everything they made you believe. Stop reading alleged sacred scriptures that have nothing to do with me. If you can't read me in a sunrise, in a landscape, in the look of your friends, in your son's eyes... ➤ you will find me in no book! Stop asking me "will you tell me how to do my job?" Stop being so scared of me. I do not judge you or criticize you, nor get angry, or bothered. I am pure love. Stop asking for forgiveness, there's nothing to forgive. If I made you... I filled you with passions, limitations, pleasures, feelings, needs, inconsistencies... free will. How can I blame you if you respond to something I put in you? How can I punish you for being the way you are, if I'm the one who made you? Do you think I could create a place to burn all my children who behave badly for the rest of eternity? What kind of god would do that? Respect your peers and don't do what you don't want for yourself. All I ask is that you pay attention in your life, that alertness is your guide. My beloved, this life is not a test, not a step on the way, not a rehearsal, nor a prelude to paradise. This life is the only thing here and now and it is all you need. I have set you absolutely free, no prizes or punishments, no sins or virtues, no one carries a marker, no one keeps a record. You are absolutely free to create in your life. Heaven or hell. ➤ I can't tell you if there's anything after this life but I can give you a tip. Live as if there is not. As if this is your only chance to enjoy, to love, to exist. So, if there's nothing after, then you will have enjoyed the opportunity I gave you. And if there is, rest assured that I won't ask if you behaved right or wrong, I'll ask. Did you like it? Did you have fun? What did you enjoy the most? What did you learn?... Stop believing in me; believing is assuming, guessing, imagining. I don't want you to believe in me, I want you to believe in you. I want you to feel me in you when you kiss your beloved, when you tuck in your little girl, when you caress your dog, when you bathe in the sea. Stop praising me, what kind of egomaniac God do you think I am? I'm bored being praised. I'm tired of being thanked. Feeling grateful? Prove it by taking care of yourself, your health, your relationships, the world. Express your joy! That's the way to praise me. Stop complicating things and repeating as a parakeet what you've been taught about me. What do you need more miracles for? So many explanations? The only thing for sure is that you are here, that you are alive, that this world is full of wonders. - Spinoza

If we were then asked if the Philosopher's God perfectly describe our Theistic God (The God of our Religion) then we are just attempting to rationalize his existence. But if our Theistic God is invented then neither is true because both are products of the human mind. If there's a God, I would never limit God to reasoning and justification but also never underestimate the creativity of the human mind. If many religions exist and the fact that there are several legends and myths and also moral lessons that can be drawn through literature, one might think that it is man who created God not the other way around. Institutions forming doctrines and creed are possible even with a fake God. If people are explaining this and that but at the end arrived at a mystery then that's for rhetoric. "Who/Which rule decided that the God is to be good/powerful/one etc. (Why not many Gods/less powerful God/evil God)" "Which rule decided that the last fundamental particle will have these properties only, which it will possess...why not some different properties?" "How can an immaterial God make something material? What is the process behind this conversion?" What is the energy source of an immaterial thing by which it can sustain? etc. etc. Therefore in spirituality/Yoga they say that we should focus on achieving Supreme Happiness (Happiness/Bliss that never goes away). Even if we find everything in the universe, ultimately we will achieve satisfaction/happiness. So, they say don't give much importance to knowledge (because questions can never end)...but give importance to the path which leads you to a state of default/supreme happiness, which once achieved never ever goes away.. God is nothing but this state. Once we achieve this state, they say, we are no different from God...then, we become God.

It is amazing to me how people of faith always talk about the same thing in totally different terms. To me--in and of itself--that is some proof that they are all just professional, polished, bullshit artists. If everyone has a completely different conception of what a thing is, then that thing is probably not an actual thing. (at least not in the conventional religious sense) Its the same kind of logic that I see Christian's use all the time: Basically the rest of the world (even though they believe what the believe as strongly as the Christian) is simply just "wrong" and they are right. I always think its important to be wary of that. And I don't mean that in a nasty way, I believe that they believe what they say with all of their heart, I just think they have almost convinced themselves of something that does not exist through being able to manipulate the human mind (which is quite malleable). Also--quick note--let's say god was real, and it was a real thing, why would He choose to align himself with one of the most historically corrupt and awful institutions this world has ever seen?

They may see themselves as "ultimately correct" but I know that there are billions of other believers who possess the same exact veracity that THEY are correct so therefore the likelihood is that one of them is wrong because it is not like one person has access to a supernatural conscious and one person doesn't. So one person could be wrong......or maybe both people are wrong....
> I believe that they believe what they say with all of their heart I doubt that they believe any of it. Maybe a few actually do, like mothers who would pray for their sick children at the expense of actual medical attention. But true believers who actually base their working model of the world on their religion would stand out as insane fanatics, or schizophrenics, or something along those lines. I think the mainstream notion of religious belief is not belief at all. It's a complicated mess involving habits of storytelling, attribution of various things to God, and all sorts of ritualistic thinking and motions associated with religion. But I'm pretty convinced that most religious people have the same expectations from reality as atheists have. They'll pray, and dream, and think about God, and then go ahead and plan their actions in the real world in a way that only makes sense in a godless world. And when the universe shows its usual indifference, when prayer fails to cure cancer and nobody miraculously survives the plane crash - they feel sad about it, but not surprised. I think this means that fundamentally, their predictive model of reality is godless.

One definition of God is: Consciousness, Existence, Bliss. We share in the first two, the third is something we have to work on. What does it take? Maybe surrender to reality, a faith that will be lead to the ultimate goal: liberation which would be Consciousness, Existence, and Bliss. Some Saints seem to have achieved it to the extent that no matter what horrors they are put through their peace of mind is not lost.

Are we really getting smarter as a species...? Well the truth is that we constantly increase the size of our epistemic circle....in the process the perimeter of our ignorance gets bigger.

@fynes leigh to "know" means to be able to express a claim that is in agreement with available current facts and useful in our process of producing further knowledge, testable predictions and technical applications.
@nickolasgaspar96604 жыл бұрын
@fynes leigh -"I think you probably already know that that definition will not bear close examination for more than two seconds, because you appear to be saying that knowledge is saying something, which is obviously absurd. " -You are pulling my leg right? Of course knowledge is a quality and an evaluation we apply on our statements. (Oxford University-Logic 101). -"You will have to do much better than that." -You will need to do better if you making a different existential claim about the abstract concept of "knowledge"! Try posting a definition of Knowledge for a change. -"What do you know as surely as you know pain?" -Are you familiar with the Nocebo effect? So pain is an emotion that we reason in to a feeling. We are aware of our pain because we feel this emotion. So our knowledge of this feeling is based on current available facts collected by our sensory system. You are trying to make an argument based on a fallacy of ambiguity (equate our awareness of a fact(information) ..the feel of an emotion, with knowing..not wise or useful). -"If merely saying something wwere knowledge, then all men would know, and they plainly do not. Do you understand the very real and fundamental difference between knowledge and information?" -You are promoting a strawman. Facts are information. Our framework explaining those facts is knowledge mate. -"I can easily illustrate it if you wish. " -You have illustrate your confusion and your inability to put down a sentence without containing a logical fallacy! -" In my respectful submission knowledge is direct immediate personal apprehension, as direct immediate and personal as pain, and anything falling short of that could not possibly be knowledge." -ok yes.....but No. this is a mystic woo woo definition. Again argument from ambiguity. Being aware of an emotion is a fact we receive from our Biology. Knowledge would be if we could FIND OUT THE CAUSE OF THE PAIN AND TREAT IT mate... -"Thus you "know" absolutely nothing about tiny things such as atoms and electrons or subatomic particles, and nor does anyone else, nor could anyone else possibly have any direct immediate personal apprehension of them, you agree?" -You can not state that while using a device and an internet connection which both are based on that exact knowledge mate.....Again you are confusing Absolute Knowledge (a red herring, one more fallacy) with Knowledge. Knowledge is not absolute, it evolves along with our observations. Science being the most reliable type of knowledge makes that clear. Knowledge is an evaluation term we apply on our current claims about the world. We use facts(information) and establish a narrative. If this narrative is compatible with our current facts and produces more knowledge predictions and technical applications then we evaluate it as KNOWLEDGE. This is really simple mate. -"Perhaps you don't understand the difference between knowledge and information." -I am sure I explained twice your error on this. Information=facts , Knowledge=Instrumentally valuable narrative of those facts. -"Self-evidently nobody can "know" anything about the past because it is not possible to directly immediately personally apprehend anything whatsoever about the past or the future (which is a dream)" -Self evidently Forensic Science renders your claim wrong. Self evidently scientific theories are frameworks that offer accurate predictions based on studying the past.I think we are good for now.

If you chose this idea, does that speak more of your own personal limitations? I mean, your inquiry seems a little self-involved; “want something really bad and you close your eyes and wish for it, (and) God” ignores you. I am not foolish enough to try to convince you of anything, I may be naive enough to believe your written words as your truths. Let me just ask, in my career, especially in the Army, I did things that I would never think I could do or ever volunteer to do. (I served from 1981-1986). But, if “I wished” not to do such things, I would have missed valuable lessons about myself and my capabilities and how soldiers can work together to do amazing things. Again, you choose your beliefs, but remember they are only your “perceptional truths” (David Bohm).

Or, as a man with the same last name as you, Thomas Kuhn, you’re locked into a paradigm that is unchangeable? Or metaphorically speaking you are missing a fundamental ingredient in your logic; you are using a Newtonian mind trying to explain entangled particles. If I may borrow a verse from Billy S.; There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, / Than are dreamt of in your philosophy [science].” Again, much respect to you for your erudition, but if I am correct, you are missing the sublime Spiritual nature of this material word. Without which you will never convince yourself that there is a good explanation of God. I would love to discuss more with you, but I am well aware you will run circles around me. But, as I would still enjoy to engage directly with you. One last thing; thought experiment. If we could imbue a quark, or a single proton (in the particle concept) with awareness, then would the lab, the science building or the twin in which surrounds us, does that equal our relationship to the Universe in size and significance? You assume our size is the standard. What if we are just quanta in the universe? I hope I didn’t waste your time. Tony

@@carlwebstern5065 Sorry, I read through some (not all, at all) and the main problem I have is that in order to accept any arguments, Christians throw in these giant faith balls. From the web site: "By doing this, he paid the ransom for all the sins of mankind on himself, and by the shedding of his blood and his death, he had become that Sin." Christians have the problem of having such a complicated theology that they don't know what first principles look like. To be honest, when people say "Jesus died for your sins" I have no idea what that means. I was raised and confirmed Catholic, and I have no idea what that means. To me, all that says is that if I accept Jesus (whatever that means) that I'll go to Heaven, but the crux of the argument is that I should be scared enough to figure out what it means, and if I don't figure it out I might as well lie to myself and tell people I know what it means, because I sure as hell want to go to Heaven. If someone could for once explain what "Jesus died for your sins" actually means and how that's supposed to psychologically and emotionally affect me, I'll at least have a piece of the puzzle. The problem with all these ideas about god is that they are just what happens to appeal to that person. They are what that individual thinks makes sense at that time, and they’re all different, and in many cases mutually contradictory. They are very clearly just what that person dreamed up, or came across and latched on to. Hick gets closest by assuming an ultimate divinity behind all these different religious viewpoints, but makes a fundamental error. He says that atheists don’t consider personal religious experience. That’s flat out not true, and as a professional theologian he must know that. Atheists simply think that religious experience is a neurological process. That’s all there is to it. Take that away and there’s just nothing left in theology that needs explanation. As Kuhn says in another video, and I paraphrase, all these different ideas about god, with no way to choose between them other than personal preference, is exactly what you’d expect if they were all made up.

Yup, just like Hawking loved to say “singularity” over & over, and Kurzweil loves to say “exponential” 1,000 times a day..... for these type of people, saying a cool sounding intellectual word over & over & over becomes like a ‘trademark’ for them - makes them seem clever and super smart.

It blows my mind every time I wake up that we humans still in 2022 don’t know how we got here and from where and how it all began before it all started and where we go when we die. I hope there is a God and I continue to hope for the afterlife. With all we have accomplished with technology etc we still don’t know.

God is an imaginary thing created in the mind of humans. Man has created many gods all over the world since day 1. Man has also created big foot and flying saucers controlled by little green men. There is no limit the man's imagination.

I remember the notion of a theologian about the personality of God. He said that God is certainly not less than personal. He seems to have meant that God has for instance something like willpower or that he can be adressed and is capable of adressing human beeings. Moreover it is a common understanding in christian theology that all human speech about God can only be understood as analogous.

God is an ideal . A concept . The idea of perfection and something of which values to live up to. Physics , the interplay of cause and effect and how it plays out is the only inherent ultimate omniscience

The search is endless to find truth. Reality is always just beyond our grasp. As we approach it expands. We are left within our being of consciousness to contemplate...how to know the unknowable.

If you always do something perfect and everyone applauds you. You don't know how great it is until you can't do it anymore. And so the absolute and it's need to know itself. Created this existence positive negative update on left. Right, happy, sad. So you could experience both and when you go home to the absolute.You'll know it for the first time.How wonderful it is to be absolutely

outstanding series. great questions and world’s best thinkers on these issues. i really like polkingham’s “process theology” notion of an open future, ie, God does not know the future. but i wonder if this is too much a view of God bound by time, which is a constituitive element of our physical universe, but what about the universe (multiverse) beyond or outside of time, and God’s relationship to that bigger picture? Time itself is a problematic aspect to cosmology, in my thinking

May I humbly suggest that the tendency to see god as a person has skewed thinking on the subject . God is a concept, an idea, not a thing. Mind has no substance. A computation, no matter how great, will never 'solve' the 'problem' of consciousness. Peace out! (peace back in!!)🦉
