You asked the question: “do I have too much?” You know the answer. Hell yes. You cannot possibly wear all of the clothes you kept. Do yourself a favor. First count how many items you have in each category: tanks, short sleeve tops, long sleeve tops, sweatshirts, sweaters, ect. Then add them up. When you realize that you have more than 365, you will give yourself a reality check. There are only 365 days in a year. You need to do a couple of things. 1. Put yourself on a no-buy for a period of time. With the amount of clothes you have, it could be a year or more. Understanding that you have a real problem, it will be really hard. Find something to fill the time you used to spend shopping. 2. Turn all your hangers backwards. When you wear an item, turn it forward. Within a period of time, seasonally, six months, or a year, analyze what you didn’t wear. Try all unworn items on or make yourself wear them within a period of time within the season. Take notes. Do you own too many of a similar style? Do you like the fit, color? Get rid of items you haven’t worn within the season that you haven’t worn or won’t wear. 3. Seriously analyze your finances. Do you have a six month emergency fund? Do you have financial goals that could reach if you stopped shopping? Instead of buying one more of something you already have 20 of, put that money into a high interest savings account or a money market. You will get real satisfaction from being able have an experience or take a trip as opposed to buying more clothes. Good luck!

girl you have an entire boutique 😂❤

In Visual Merchandising class, for Fashion Designer degree, they taught us, to hang our clothes light to colors, in rainbow order, then dark, solids to prints, to neutrals, if we wanted our closet to look like a boutique. Living in Calif., Winters are mild, so I hang the matching wool, blazer, over the Summer, floral, or plaid dress, & layer a matching cashmere sweater, between the 2. But the sweaters are stacked in rainbow order, in the amoire, to prevent stretching the shoulders. This avoids having to rotate, seasonal clothes. Dressy, Winter coats are hung in spare bedroom closet. Plain Winter coats are hung under stairs in coat closet. As expensive as everything is, these days, I wouldn't get rid of anything that still fit's you, b/c if you stain it, it will be more expensive to replace. This way you have back ups. Try to get another rolling rack, but avoid hanging more than 400 lbs on it. I wedged a dress between a bunch, & it careened over, bending the posts on it, so I had to buy another rack.

Watching these closet clean out videos make me feel even better about spending more money on very specific and limited number of clothing items that I really really love and can envision myself keeping for years, quality over quantity. Also waiting at least a couple weeks before deciding to purchase something new has really helped me cut down on things I would otherwise impulse buy. I’m proud to say I wear everything in my closet and finally don’t have any unworn items still new with tags. Also I recommend everyone try to buy second hand before buying new if they can.

I get where you are coming from with this comment but because my social media is fashion based and this is my full time job- I work with a lot of different brands to style their collections, etc .. so I have a large amount of clothes from that + clothing that I have purchased. I am working on downsizing my wardrobe and gift a lot of extra pieces to friends & family but I think it’s really rude for you to make assumptions when you don’t know me or how much I actually “consume” and purchase myself.

@@emilygrace266 to be fair, creating fashion related content as a full time job is a choise that easily leads to over consumption. You have decided to do this as your job, you have decided to take the brand deals that promote consumption. Content creating in any field is not an essential job: No one needs to do it (vs. we need people in health care), every content creator has chosen to do it and wants to do it. In your situation, you have decided that you want to make a living by over consuming and by promoting over consumption. This applies to every single content creator, not just you.
