Better to just mud them in place, because if they are stabled, you can no longer adjust the corner to ensure the edge is proud of the flat. It’s important to use your 6” drywall knife to check that you can fill the bead with mud.

In my area that would not work, any mud on beads eventually break bond without a fastener, due to house settlement. I personally recommend a corner bead setting tool, they ensure a proper grip by folding a piece of the corner bead into the gypsum, and also help make sure it's on in a way that mud will cover both sides.

Why put those on when the door casing trim will be covering those edges?

Never put drywall joints where there's corners like doorways or windows it will crack.
