When my kids were little I bought two sweater hanging racks, the cloth ones. Each week they picked out 5 days worth of outfits (the weekends was anything goes) and put one in each cubbie. Then they knew each day they could pick any outfit they picked out but only from the cubbies. It gave them control over what they wanted to wear and kept their bedrooms clean. The other thing I did was had 0 dresser drawers with clothes. My kids are 17 and 20 and still hang all their clothes and keep their undies and socks in a canvas tote on a closet shelf. It was all about “the path of least resistance, teaching responsibility, allowing them control and saving my sanity” I hope that helps.
