Clothes I'm Thinking of Decluttering Help Me Decide

Ever since we got a house with a walk in closet I've been trying to find my footing again with my minimalist capsule wardrobe. My style has SLIGHTLY changed as I like having pj sets now instead of t-shirts and spandex bottoms for everything. I have also maintained a weight loss where I feel like a lot of my clothes don't fit properly. I've also acquired some color clothes and although I've kept them I haven't worn them. So I just need help decided which clothes to keep and which to get rid of.

I say if it’s unique and it holds sentimental value, hold on! You got the space now! The skirts are so cute! I feel like they’d make cute date night or special event outfits even if you don’t wear it often. Everything else..if it doesn’t fit, doesn’t make you feel like you, etc..donate!

Keep the white top and put a black or white camisole underneath. Also, the long greenish sweater with pockets is good for a house sweater during winter when its cold…. Just my thoughts…. 😊

The house sweater idea is so unique. This house is freezing in winter. This idea can help with our bill lol. Now that summer is almost over I haven't worn that white top or the jean shorts, it's the only unworn summer outfit in my whole wardrobe haha.

I feel the same way about how things fit my frame so I mostly wear baggy/mens clothing but there are times like “date nights” where I do wish I had some cute items so now I have a bin of specifically curated outfits for special occasions and try to revise them once a year. With that said, I’d keep the skirts until you find a more comfortable equivalent and most definitely the Peter Pan jacket 😊

You're the only person that has said this to me. It's genius. I should pull those "date" or nicer outfits out of my wardrobe and have them folded away. That way I'm like making the distinction that they're special and I won't feel like criticizing and downsizing them so much. Thank you for sharing that.

LOL after all of that so many people told me to keep those skirts. I will. I don't know if I will wear them in public. Maybe stocking would make me feel more comfortable. I will definitely wear them in the house for dinner dates, holidays, and videos.

I liked how you described your style with * slightly elevated T-shirt. I tend towards slightly elevated casual . I feel like you should get rid of the clothes that you don't feel your best in. I used to keep things that I wasn't comfortable in and then regret wearing them lol. Now I rid myself of them as soon as I don't feel good in them.

LMAO right? I'm still trying to be comfortable but put together. Also I used to be so good at getting rid of things but with this tiny walk in closet and getting free clothes that fit I'm like mmmmmm lol.

I would say keep the 1X shirt if you can make it work with something and definitely keep the culottes. The long sweater might work if it can be belted and look more polished and you'd wear it that way. I'd keep the green sweater, the tuxedo jacket, both puffers and the raincoat and see what you wear when the weather gets colder. The rest I'd say pass on, as you pretty much said you're just not into them. Hope that helps!

OOOh Holly the belted idea was a great idea lol. I used to do that in my early 20's. I don't own a belt but it is a great tip for larger shirts. I WAS totally leaning that way with all of those jackets. I need to see which ones I would wear come fall, spring, and winter. Also summer is almost over and the only outfit I didn't wear in my closet was the white shirt and jean shorts lol..

Now I will admit, I haven’t watched your other clothing videos. But there’s a few questions I felt like you didn’t answer with these clothes. First of all, is how you dress that important to you? I know for me it affects my mood and motivations. Sometimes just changing my outfit helps me refresh my mind. I know how comfy some clothes could be, but when I wear them I feel slouchy and tired and lazy. Or as stylish as grey is, when I wear it I feel so blah even if I think it looks good. For the pilling top, if you feel good wearing it still then buy a depiller! Definitely worth the investment as you can prolong the life of so many jumpers with one! However I kind of got the vibes you didn’t feel the best in it because you don’t fill it out the same way anymore (in which case, donate!). The same with the skirts, they’re super cute and fit your vibe really well. But you kept saying they feel too young for you and you don’t really enjoy skirts. In which case, automatically donate. Don’t keep things because they’re pretty and they work well in your wardrobe but you’re not comfortable in them. If it’s not your priority to work on feeling more comfortable in an item, somebody else will totally love and rock those skirts (I love green and I love wearing skirts so I am speaking from experience!) The pieces you wear together: separate them. Go into your wardrobe and pick out what you wear a lot and match them together. If it’s not your vibe then donate, if it feels good then keep. I love a good pair of massive trousers to slouch around in, but I’ll admit I find matching tops with my pair a pain to not look like I’m drowning in fabric lmao. The white and blue - donate. They’re super cute and I know I’d wear the hell out of them, but I can tell by the way you talk about them that they’re not your vibe! The skintight thing is so real, sometimes I’ll catch myself in a turtleneck from the side and be like… yikes. So not crazy at all to think like that. What sold it for me is the cats thing. I had to avoid all black when I had my lovely golden Labrador and I think if you know you won’t reach for it then it’s not worth it! Keep the red. It seems to work so well with different occasions for you, you seem to vibe with it and it’s the perfect tighter top to build confidence with!

OOOh totally agree about your first point. Clothes do change my mood. I did consider a depiller I owned an electric one forever ago but I wasn't sure that it was worth it because I don't feel good in this top anymore so you're right on the money. Hahaha yes! Yes! And yes! I am thinking of keeping the skirts but for holidays and dates in my house. Totally don't like the idea of wearing them outside but they are so cute and feminine I can see myself wearing them in my house (I know this is really weird and I've never had this thought before I got these skirts for free). LMAOOO turtleneck from the side. You are too funny. I'll hold onto those two cropped turtlenecks for the skirts inside the home. They look so cute together. I'll see how long they last as I suck at taking care of lighter colors. You can start like a tip channel with clothing because this was GOLDEN and I can tell you've thought about clothing a lot. Like one minute shorts or something. Thank you so much.

If you like everything about a piece except the color, consider dying the fabric. With thrifting, it won't always have the fabric tag. You can't dye a piece of fabric unless you know what it's made of because different types of fabric will pick up dye in different ways and synthetic fibers need a special kind of fabric dye. If you choose to dye something, don't pick a darkening color that is a complementary color, opposite on the color wheel. It combines in an unappealing way like when you squish together all the playdough and it turns into a gross brown. If the piece is green, use dark green or dark blue dye. If the piece is yellow, use dark brown dye. You can maintain your preferred darker color palette while incorporating your new pieces in shades of different dark colors instead of straight black.
