Thanks for sharing your notes. I'm always interested in your thought process and love a good visual. Thanks for the recommendation of Edward Rutherford books - I had not heard of him but sounds up my alley. I also have a few David Mitchell books flagged to read this year. Plan to revisit Bone Clocks which I didn't quite finish a few years back - the writing is so good and ideas so intriguing and very Meta - worlds within worlds.

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I don’t think I’ll read any of his books just yet as I found Cloud Atlas a little hard going - but I’m glad I had a lot of time devoted to it during the quiet break between Christmas and new year. Check out Rutherfords books, but I warn you, they’re massive!

Thank you so much. One of my next videos is actually in French. It was so embarrassing doing this but I figure I may as well give it a go. It’s actually half French half English. So that will be my next video next week.

Omg. Prepared to laugh. Seriously, I've checked it over so many times and I've picked up MANY errors already. I've mucked up all my masculine and feminine nouns, pronounced words incorrectly. My mind races a million miles an hour trying to translate from English to French (in head) then verbalise it through the mouth and it comes out so weird. Add the pressure of a camera.....and public views.... well, let me say it was difficult to do but glad I gave it a go. The video goes up next Thursday. Bonne chance avec votre etudes aussi!

@ awwww thank you. Ok let me know what you think then tell me how you’re learning French. What’s the best way you’re finding to grapple with this language?

Hi Helen, thanks for the review. I’ve been meaning to ask what you reckon about those books on that show on ABC called “Books That Made us” presented by Claudia Karvan? I'm not Australian, so I enjoyed the show because I didn't know most of them. Hearing the stories behind the books and listening to some of the authors themselves sparked a bit more interest, particularly Too Much Lip which I have not read yet. I'm always suspicious and critical of the image and cultural cues white Australians portray of themselves and push on what Australia is and is not, so I thought that could do for a good episode on your channel. I mean, was that a good selection? Is it representative? Love your work!

Oh wow thanks for the recommendation. I hardly watch television so I haven’t heard of this series. Claudia Karvan is well known so this show must be good. I’ll definitely check it out as it sounds like a program I’d love.

Great review on this book and loved the diagram..it makes me want to read it as it sounds deeply engrossing but after having just completed my January Big Book Ulysses and a Joyce bio and a history of Ulysses itself i need a palatte cleanser so I'll put that one in a holding pattern and read Blue Ruin instead..it looks intetesting
@LifeLessonsFromBooks12 күн бұрын
@@andyjones1899 yeah that’s a good plan. Best leave Cloud Atlas because it does take a lot of a mental load (in particular one story written in its own language). By the sounds of it you need a lot more palette cleanser books after Ulysses. But you did it! You read a book that many fear to read - and may never read. Congratulations 🙌!!!!

Why is the editing so choppy?
@mareeabee829312 күн бұрын
I have to agree! I love the content of this video but it would be so much easier to watch if the editing did not fade in and out visually so often. I had to not watch and only listen. I cannot wait to finally read Cloud Atlas--I really enjoy the movie and am especially excited to read the book even more after this stellar review.

So sorry about this everyone. It isn’t comfortable in front of the camera because I say um and ah so much! I thought I’d try something different by adding the transition but that obviously didn’t work. 🤣 Next time, I’ll fix this. I appreciate the feedback and apologies for this. Editing is not my favourite task to do at all. Anyway, if you read Cloud Atlas let me know what you think.

@@LifeLessonsFromBooks No need to apologize. You don't owe anyone explanations for a choppy video. You are doing a this as a pursuit and a service that also helps others know about good books.

Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated. It means a lot to me - it truly does. This was actually good feedback and I'll incorporate it into other videos. Editing takes AGES and sometimes I can go a bit wild with the added transitions and other functions to see how it turns out. Ultimately I've learned the best thing is to....just refer to your notes rather than talk off the cuff. Unfortunately I don't have the gift of the gab like other KZbinrs...ha ha!!!

Hi Helen, I did not mean to disrespect you or your channel. I always look forward to your videos. I'm sorry some people took it the wrong way. 😔

@@TerriCrisp-ms9qk Absolutely none taken Terri. Not at all!!! Thank you for watching and sharing this feedback. I do appreciate it so please don’t think any more of it. Besides there’s books to read and talk about. That’s more important. 🤣 I appreciated you doing this. 🙏😊
