A lot of people don't have time to practice perfect parry, so HPMP Swap wouldn't work well. Because it can one-shot you. I saw some people using it on Tifa vs. Titan which looked easy enough. When I do it myself, there are few moves that Titan cannot be block with normal block. Instead, I have to use Synergy where Defense where Tifa leap backward. My point is... to use HPMP perfectly, you'll be waiting many hours trying to perfect and redo battle over & over again... If the goal is to beat him & finished the game (like most people do who are not streaming their plays)... You'd have a better shot with Black Materia than HPMP Swap.

to keep it simple, yes. To give a deeper answer, the game has a calculation of damage vs hp pool which determines how much limit charge you get. Perfect blocking still acts like "being hit" but, as you know, without the damage.

Damn so im guessing the limit gauge charge is based off of how much % HP you wouldve taken without the blocking, so since every hit would be insta kill its just like 3 hits is enough, I wonder if this is what they intended with this or if they just thought people would wanna spam magic lol

I'm gonna be trying out HPMP Swap when I start my Hard Mode Run, Even if Cloud gets K.O'd a lot, its going to fill his limit gauge. With a full party infinite MP and Reraise to keep him in the fight.... could be a lot of fun. Loving the videos:)

I noticed you were able to block two attacks that were labeled as unblockable. Is there a trick to doing that or does the game just lie when it says it can't be blocked? The two attacks were Grip of Fate and Skewer.

Those 2 attacks are Grab type attacks which you can block if you have equipped Precision Defence Focus Materia on max level.

So he has the Mp-Hp swap materia which changes your hp and mp values. Considering the limit gauge fills faster the lower your HP is, if you parry a couple attacks (which would guaranteed kill you), you fill the bar super fast. Paired with taking a couple hits during the limit animation (which gives you invulnerability) you refill it instantly. Meaning: low hp, limits go brrrr

Apparently Limit Gauge charges much faster when you have lower max HP (or just HP), so you can charge it super fast with precise blocking and HPMP. So far all the speedrunners being doing this it seems.

@@KalmashinV right sorry about that! just saw at the start of the vid you had 3/4 a limit, looked at the action and saw you do sonic boom then finishing touch, looked down at the limit bar to see only 3/4 again, on second viewing i saw you gaining insane amounts of limit charge whenever you blocked =D sorry again about the mix up! =)

The funny thing about the opening picture is when Cloud holds on the clear materia on the hillside at the end, you actually see the sky and ground flipflop lol. HP-MP is for the skilled player. Consequently, I did not use it lol

Just curious but does anyone know how the materia functions with Barett’s lifesaver? Both with him with the materia and another party member? Who gains the limit boost. Afaik Barret cant actually die from lifesaver damage. Hell be reduced to 1 HP. Wonder if it can be abused

I assume that it has to do with the potentially received damage. 1000 of 9999 is less then 1000 of 999. And this is what the swap materia does i think.

Ok, I keep seeing people saying HP/MP swap is powerful. But could someone explain why? How come people don't just get 1-hit-killed, and what's the benefit of so much excess mp??

FF7 Rebirth has a parry system in which practically every attack can be parried with a certain materia and you will take no damage raising the skill ceiling already from that and Limit hcarges based on total hp of characters meaning any damage inflicted parried or not will charge your limit based on leftover hp so in the case of HPMP swap you will always bein in kill hp threshold meaning if you parry 3 attacks you have your limit charged. This materia also gives you all the mp your hp would be and they swap the stats. Getting limit breaks often and having a surplus of mp to spare is very powerful but this isn't the only powerful build strat in the game this is just one of the powerful ones.

The benefit of excessive MP would be not having to worry about MP management and with some gear magic hits really hard. On top of that the most expensive spells are now easily affordable and you can just spam without worry of mp drainage. Genji gloves remove the internal damage cap from the game meaning you can have spells nuke for crazy dmg numbers. Physical also gets heavily buffed by genji gear as well making them no longer just be outright worse than spamming spells all day.

Equipping the "Enhanced Expeditionary Medal" gives you Limit Level 3 at start of battle. (Assuming you have unlocked Lv3 in your Folios) Then you need to equip the HPMP Swap Materia which Significantly increases your limit gauge whenever you 1. Perfect Block an attack. 2. Stagger an Enemy. 3. Take Damage. Your limit gauge will also fill up when an enemy attacks you while you are performing a Limit attack as you are invulnerable while using a Limit Break. The Trade off is if you get Hit, You will die. This can be countered by casting Reraise on yourself at the start of Battle @ZeroFanFare Harsh!!! Lol.

it does exactly what it sounds like. if your hp is really high you can use magic without worrying about running out. on the other hand, if your mp is really low... you'll want to be careful.

@elvinobiakalusi7505 actually, from what others have stated, if you are a master of perfect blocking, you can fill your Limit gauge in 3 or so blocks. Nobody is surviving with 90 HP otherwise...

It swaps the character's max HP and MP values, so your HP becomes extremely low. The lower your HP value, the faster your limit break meter fills. So with such a low HP, all you have to do is parry or get attacked 3 times to fill your limit break up. Also, any attacks that land on you during your limit break animation (your invincible during it) also fill your limit gauge up again. The obvious disadvantage is that you can die extremely quickly with such low HP, so you have to be good at parrying or avoiding attacks. Reraise and reprieve can help mitigate this.

Any attack that binds can be blocked if you have a maxed Precision Defense materia equipped. If he didn't perfect block (which actually gets easier with the materia equipped, too), it would've hit him and ruined everything. This also works for blocking the landworm's Swallow attack, among others.

I'm no expert but from what I can gather is your limit break filling up is determined by how likely an action was to kill you and since Cloud had insanely low HP and Sephiroth hits harder than a truck the player is getting a shit load of limit fill for pretty much every action they avoid or block. It's honestly really cool once you understand it.

Most important is Enhanced Expeditionary Medal and HP-MP Swap Materia, other Materia is Strength Up, Enemy Skill, Precision Defence Focus, Steadfast Block, First Strike,Luck Up x2 and rest are optional and don't really matter in this video.

there are two benefits to HP MP swap. First, it gives you a shitton of mp so you can cast basically anything without worrying about running out. I've heard people give it to a useless character on hard mode to just cast cure after every battle, but you can also use it in battle for reraise, magnify spells, etc. The much more cooler variant has to do with a quirk of the limit gauge charge rate. It depends on the amount of damage you take compared to your max health, with a limiter of 1/3rd the limit gauge per single trigger. Meaning that if you have 8000 hp, you would need to take 24000 damage total for your limit gauge to fully charge. It's important to note that perfect parries gives the limit charge you would've gotten from damage without actually taking damage, and that staggering an enemy also fills 1/3rd of the limit gauge. Now, with 8000 health, the only "quick" way to charge limit is to get hit by very heavy damage, like Octaslash or Zantezuken. But if you have 100 health...suddenly everything kills you. And so parrying 3 attacks fully fills your limit bar. Add on to that the fact that the entire limit animation counts as invulnurable (so you can charge limit during your limit), and you can infinitely chain limits back to back to back.
