One thing _Rebirth_ did really well was showing that, for all the good in their relationship, there was also some bad. Cloud has always been Tifa's hero and Tifa has always been Cloud's anchor. They are each other's closest confidant. But there's still plenty of misunderstanding and miscommunication on both sides. As kids, Tifa assumed that Cloud was fine on his own and preferred being alone. The truth was that he never felt welcome. Cloud assumes that now that he's back, everything is fine between them. But Cloud leaving Nibelheim hurt her. And while she was relieved and happy when he came back, she was still worried because he wasn't the same and refused to talk about what went on. SPOILERS AHEAD (but I figure if you're here you finished the game or don't care) Cloud constantly puts on this brave face. He's falling apart but shakes it off and responds that he's fine whenever Tifa or the others are concerned about him. It's only after he kind of loses his mind, kills some Shinra soldiers, and very nearly kills Tifa that he admits to her that he's not fine. It's the fear not only that he could've lost her, but also that it would've been his fault that causes him to break down that wall. And she responds by saying that she'll be his hero now and that the burden isn't entirely on him. They're the strongest relationship in the entire game because it's the only one that goes through these tests, regardless of player interference. They fight, they make up, they make mistakes, they forgive, and they move forward, stronger and better than ever.
