Fuck the soloing!! We all know that’s what Buddy is known for! But,!...here we see the way he drives the band and musically sets up the horn figures!! Incredible!!!

Buddy's ability to drive and support a jazz band was truly astonishing. It was about as close to musical perfection as I think we'll ever hear.

being a bassist before switching to drums many years ago I really appreciate the subtle interactions up close between Buddy and his bassist during that inspiring bass solo! The audio was quite good and made one feel as if you were sitting right beside them during that intimate exchange which was uniquely captured at this show and that was quite a moment not lost on me and also supremely demonstrates Buddy's ability to focus on a single member of the band to encourage an even better performance out of them. Awesome posting! Thanks!

This is where Buddy was at his best. His solos are legendary but his ensemble work has never been equaled, his total immersion expresses the very soul of the musical content, to this day no other drummers express the composition like Buddy. Serious drummers appreciate his ensemble work more than his solos. Great post thanks!!

Nice to see this go around the net for the pleasure of Buddy fans. I personally got this out from the Norwegian National Broadcasting archives about 15 years ago since i have a good friend who used to be a jazz producer for the network. I traded it around to a few people and it has been showing up for many years on YT. The producer told me that it was never broadcast. Only 3 songs exists. The venue is called Njaardhallen, an old handball arena close to my house in oslo, still in use today.

+erik smith I think I speak for many, many BR fans when I say: Thank You Erik for getting this video out of the archives!! It's always nice to connect with someone else who, like myself, had the determination and put forth the effort to get BR videos out from just gathering dust so that everyone can enjoy and learn from them. (Like you I am the source collector, as they say, for a few of the BR vids now circulating.)

+cloudview747 Yes, we need to get it all out there for people to enjoy and to keep Buddy´s legacy alive for the next generations. I also got the audio of Buddy´s concert in Oslo in March 1977 with the Killer Force out from the broadcast archives back in the 90s. Part of it was already erased (!) Speaking of which, BR band member Dean Pratt says the Killer Force was recorded for TV in March 1977. I know the audio became the "live in poland" LP/CD. Do you know anything about the filmed footage from this? I recently wrote to the Polish national broadcasting about this to inquire.
@cloudview7478 жыл бұрын
+erik smith I've heard the same thing - maybe from Dean because we have talked a great deal - but never in all my dealings with collectors has anyone said anything about having that 1977 Poland footage. And thanks for Oslo 1977 audio!! Regarding the videos where I am the source collector, if you would like to you can email me at cloudsfogmist@gmail.com to discuss whether you may not have the best quality available - which we could then remedy!

@@erzug I forgot about that situation... Talk about a tragedy. Who would have known poor guy would have taken it that hard and did something like that... at least from what I remember that is what the story was that he was so distraught after being accused of hoarding gas during a gas crisis for his plane that he let it run out of gas intentionally committing suicide because he could not face the ridicule from the public for what he did which nowadays would seem ridiculous compared to the outrageous things that celebrities have been doing.
