First of all, the biscuits and cocoa were delicious, albeit not very filling. Thankfully the breakfast the next morning was GREAT! Actually, it will be featured in an upcoming video all about English Breakfasts I ate on my trip! hee hee I found the walk down a bit difficult only because I didn't want to slip! But the walk back up WAS enough to make me huff and puff.... though I had to climb up and down steep inclines a few times a day in Cornwall, so I was starting to get used to it! The one benefit is that I ate all those wonderful treats and didn't gain weight that trip! #worthit

Excellent vlog. I loved the tight editing and the way you stitched in those Python clips! Brilliant! No criticism for mispronouncing English place names. We've all done it (Wymondham, Godmanchester, Happisburgh...). Sorry you didn't get to Westward Ho! - the only place name in the British Isles with an exclamation mark. The place owes its fame to Charles Kingsley's best selling book of the same name in the mid 19th century, set in nearby Bideford (pronounced Biddi-f'd). A group of entrepreneurs pounced on the opportunity to make the area a tourist hotspot, so the ! is an intentional part of the village name.
@MagentaOtterTravels
@MagentaOtterTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, Godmanchester is probably the most absurd pronunciation I've seen... really just meant to confuse everyone, LOL! Thanks for the advice on Bideford... I definitely would have said that incorrectly! I applaud the marketers who decided to use a ! to get people to visit. I certainly use them in video titles to try to get folks to watch! haha... Thanks for your lovely comments as always Mr. Wells!

A little farther west from Clovelly on that Devon coast is Hartland point, with views north into the Bristol Channel and of Lundy Island, and views west into the often turbulent Atlantic Ocean. It's wilder and not so picture-pretty as Clovelly, but the Hartland coast has its own majesty.

To my certain knowledge, Westward Ho! is the only place - in Britain anyway - that has an exclamation mark in it's name. I reckon the cats have seen too many people for too long, for it to faze them anymore. The first one (all grey) reminded me of one I got in the early 80's, he went by the name of Spike and all he wanted was fussing and loving, that was the most important thing for him - it made him content.
@MagentaOtterTravels
@MagentaOtterTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Awwwwww, I love the Spike story! Did he purr all the time? Yes, the Clovelly Cats are sick to death of tourists wanting to take their photos, I'm sure! If they were more like OTTERS they would love the attention! But they are cats... which makes them disdainful and uncooperative by nature. But I'm still a cat lover.😍 I think Westward Ho! is the only place in either of our countries with an exclamation point at the end. So funny!

No criticism of your mispronunciation, as English is not your first language (LOL) you did ok! Clovelly has it's own lifeboat that is not funded by the RNLI, but by money raised locally. There used to be a beautiful clifftop road called The Hobby Drive leading into Clovelly but unfortunately coastal erosion made it unsafe

Oh wow, I didn't think about how Plymouth was probably a dangerous place to be during the war because of the port access. Glad you were safe... and how absolutely lovely to be able to live in a place like Clovelly! Do you currently live in Devon, or are you a Brummie now? Thanks for your comment. Cheers! Dara
