He'd be in a lot better situation than he is now with 8th grade math and budgeting. But "financial literacy" includes knowing things like asking "hi Mr. slick Whole Life Insurance Sales guy, what is your commission structure?"; facts like "ideal use of a revolving credit account is to have a tiny charge post right before the card reports to a credit bureau"; and having a conviction that "nobody should have to pay to file their taxes" and being able to persist through a bunch of misleading fake free ads. Nobody learns those things in 8th grade. Heck, financial literacy includes things like understanding the difference between Fidelity Freedom Target Date funds, and Fidelity Freedom Target Date INDEX funds (the former is actively managed and has much higher ER). There are just. So. Many. G*dd*mn traps.

FYI - eating cheap and healthy go hand in hand. I eat tons of plain Greek yogurt, muesli, oatmeal, spinach, fruit, and soups. Those are ALL cheap and last me at least one week if not longer.

Soup is easy, filling, insanely versatile, dirt cheap, usually pretty healthy, and can last a whole week. And if you're lazy, there are about a thousand different soups you can make in a $30 slow cooker with about five minutes' worth of effort. Soup is basically the ultimate food.

Right, the way he's talking and his priorities, plus how he also says he's very depressed. It's exactly what I'm like during a mixed episode. And mixed episodes are definitely a huge part of my current financial situation. I think he really needs to go to a therapist and psychiatrist if he's dx'ed bipolar. Otherwise it'll get more out of control, and seem impossible to get out of the hole he's digging. I can't think of why else fries and streaming is a higher priority than his son and the mother of his child.

Mental health is a part of everyone's life. It is the driving force of all of our decisions. Some have poor mental health and some people have good mental health. Just the fact that you think of someone in a negative way or call them a loser could mean that you yourself have some issues that would indicate poor mental health.
