I think Pygmy/ child rasbora would be great tank mate with some Pygmy Corydoras on the bottom. Otocinclus to help with the algae. Maybe scarlet badiss instead of the chilli rasobora but only three of them. Nice stocking list right there. I would 6 for each except the scarlet badiss, add some cherry shrimp some amano shrimp and some Nerite snails. Now that would be the ultimate non-betta nano tank.

You can keep these within community tanks so long as stock is carefully selected. For example they mix fine with many species of small Boraras (Chili, Strawberry, Phoenix etc), Pygmy Cory, Celestial Pearl Danio, and Danio Erythromicron. When fully grown they can even be kept with Ruby Tetra (Axelrodia riesei), Ember and Green Neon Tetra without issue.

I have my clown killies with cherry/Amano shrimps and they get a long well. Apparently they managed to start breeding as one day I looked in the tank, I noticed 3 tiny killies hiding near my tank's floating moss.

the softer the better, but I know someone who breeds them at ph 7.4.

Anything above ph 7.8 long term will do these little guys no good at all, they will thrive in really heavily planted tanks with very slow water current.
