My prayers for Frank McGarvey , may God and Our Lady Bless him, very sad listening to him speak about his health, my own dad has cancer so I know what is happening with the emotion and the treatment process, blood tests and so on, cancer can be beaten so Frank should know that, I'm in Italy next week shrines of Italy so I'll remember Frank over there. I met Frank once in a city centre store. I was with my wee boy. Frank spent some time with us and signed an autograph for him. No airs or graces just bags of humility and fun. How sad 😢 🍀 I was 9 years old when I took a proper interest in Celtic. The ‘85 cup final is the 1st one I can remember. I used to recreate McGarveys diving header in to my neighbours neatly preened hedge until I happened to do it when she was staring out her kitchen window. 🙏🏻

That 85 cup final win was a game I watched dozens of times on a vhs in Johannesburg long before satellite tv. I replayed the goal in my garden hundreds of times. The goal and frank will live forever as legendary

I was 10 years old when the cup final header went in and I went mental celebrating in the living I broke 2 of my mums ornaments I thought she was going to go mad but just laughed as she seen how happy I was ,then I spent the rest of the day practicing diving headers in the back garden . So many great goals and assists, against all the top teams in Scotland and Europe. As well as 85 cup final wonder goal, one in 5-0 v Sporting, numerous v Dundee United, Aberdeen & Rangers, and your belter of a goal into the top corner v St Mirren in Feb 1981 in paradise, just before half time is one my favourites. I was right behind the goal when Frank scored that header... My friend and I had a Special name for Frank.. Because of the Unique way he ran about the park and confused the opposition we called him "Squiggly" The name never caught on,but this is how I will always remember him : )

That was my first cup final as a 10 year old, walking to Hampden across the old red ash football pitches (now Asda) from my Granny and Grandad's in Prospecthill Circus, with my Dad, brothers, uncles and cousins all together just taking in the experience and getting lifted over the turnstile. Couldn't believe the size of the crowd and atmosphere and when Frank scored that flying header the place just erupted. When he went on his knees you could see what it meant. After that final I really understood what Celtic was all about. Me and my brothers spent the next 3 years reenacting the moment over and over again. A magic moment in time. Special memories. Even for a charity match, His class absolutely showed as a player and as a leader in that dressing room. It wasn't just a wee friendly game to him, he was adamant we had to beat Rangers that day.
