Another very important aspect that I immediately noticed was that it forces you to move into the ball rather than staying static over the ball or worse yet falling back on the back leg. It also forces the rotation of the upper body. That gives you the power and stops those horrible duck hooks.

Want you to know, I showed one of your videos of Moe Norman's swing to a 75 year old friend, and it made his day. A lifetime golfer, semipro, he suffered an injury that prevented him from making his full backswing. He made adjustments, but was resigned to not playing like he used to. Watching Moe Norman's swing made him realize he could get his game back. So now you've helped us both!!!!! I cant thank you enough for that!!😍😁

I’m not anti conventional golf swing but it means hard work cause it isn’t natural and logical with biomechanics. Moe found the proper way to use a golf club and I can’t understand why 99% of teachers don’t include this in their lessons. Sure, not easy to copy but I guess it’s something when you get it. I’m working on it secretly still using a conventional swing but I feel it better & better especially by using ground forces effortlessly !

I do this for a different reason. I had gotten very "ball bound" over the years. So, instead of looking at the ball, I look at the patch of grass behind the ball during the swing, ignoring the ball. My irons and chipping improved dramatically. Ive always done this with driver. I watch the low point of grass behind the ball. Now interested in going single plane.

This I think, is the last piece of the jigsaw for me ( I hope ). I have purposely been using the single plane swing for a few months now and I think and hope it is beginning to pay off . The one thing in the swing that I was struggling with was starting with the clubhead so far behind the ball. I usually try to play the ball with my club about 3 inches behind the ball, I have discovered although single plane my club is moving back to the ball from an out to in direction which sets the ball flying to the left. I'm a 28 handicapper, after watching this video last night a couple of times, I played the front 9 at my local course and everything fell into place. Forcing myself to play every shot about a foot behind the ball the natural swing path becomes in to out without thinking about trying to do it and the ball flies dead straight. My score on that front 9 today was single bogies on 6 holes, 2 pars and one double bogey. I am delighted. Many thanks Todd, looking forward to my local clubs midweek stableford competition tomorrow.

I think one reason is that it is a forward ball position which helps engancing followthrough body rotation and restricting too much backswing. The result is shorter backswing and longer foreswing followthrough.

Hi Tod. Best video to date! Personally I do not think of the extras tilt because when I bend my body my club head is automatically placed inches away from my ball not one foot;but as many inches as it needs to be Please allow me to explain further . As you know Moe Norman in his unique lateral swing said he always places his ball in relationship to his front foot at the exact same place every single time and regardless of which club he uses. We then see him taking aim as he is moving his club head several inches away from his ball; and then at the point we see both his elbows pointing at his hips just before he swings his club. The elbows pointing at the hips was exactly what Ben Hogan shows in his 5 lessons; but did not do this himself. On Moe’s downstairs we can see Moe’s club returning to its exact same low point directly to his ball every single time. Sending his ball straight to his target. Why? Because his lateral swing is controlled solely by his knees and lower body with his upper body and hips simply following. Amazing! At age 76 my three point aim as you have shown in this fine video is now much easier by doing the simplicity of above. I call it my Moe Norman/Ben Hogan hybrid swing and now have the feeling of greatness for myself. Cheers 👍

I've been trying to learn single-plane swinging and when I setup properly, it seems that my body just wants to put the club 6"-1' at setup. It does seem weird, and you think you're going to hit the ground behind the club but I'm doing the best ball-striking ever! Great hits that just pick the ball clean. Using my old, conventional swing, way too many of my swings resulted in a duff. Loving your training!
@achantanarendra39894 жыл бұрын
Thank you Todd, in downswing I see slight bend and kick towards lead knee, I believe that is covering up the gap between the club and ball in address position
@Balataone5 жыл бұрын
Hey Todd, Moe’s swing is essentially “right sided”. So setting up with the right side directly above the club head allows for a proper on plane take away. The same goes for left sided “swingers”... setting up with the left side above the ball for on plane take away. Moe then slides into the ball on the downswing to get his right side above the ball for impact.. classic hitting technique! 👍
@ToddGravesGolf5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I would suggest that the swing is "both" sided and, as far as slide, I don't agree with slide either. If you look at my video on this channel, you will see that I analyze his swing from behind and there really is very little lateral spine movement. There is no lateral movement without rotation so I try to avoid describing Moe's swing in one dimensional references because all movements are three-dimensional.

In my many years of using this swing, I've not been able to set the club back with irons. It's a mental block, or maybe better to say I have never been willing to endure the temporary issues that would come with making a change. I do it with the driver and to a lesser extent with other woods. And, I do fight with backswing issues, especially on irons. The set back makes so much sense. I need to accept the teething pains and try to do it.

Setting up with the club further behind the ball, eliminating start of the backswing, certainly helps me to keep the path straighter through impact, hello fairway. I have started to place the putter 2-4 inches away from the ball too, helps me to visualize and keep the straight path through the ball towards the hole. Not sure if I saw that as a tip or if it just came naturally after starting to place the other clubs far behind the ball. I know the typical putting recommendation is to keep as still as possible when putting, but for me it works better "feeling the ball to the hole" when putting as well, similar to a short Moe chip, but with the claw grip..

if you put the club behind the ball, the ball easily becomes your target even if you picked a spot in front of the ball before. then you start releasing at the ball instead of at your true target. by putting the club further behind the ball this (visual) risk is eliminated and you naturally follow the path through the ball to the picked spot in front of the ball.

hi, was his clubface square or open to the target when he placed it so far behind the ball?

Hi Todd, is a bigger grip size, bigger than the size usually recommended or measured by club-fitters, needed for one plane swing, as Moe Norman did mention that he holds the club in his palm, not in his fingers?
@ToddGravesGolf2 жыл бұрын
I do recommend bigger grips but I dont recommend a total PALM grip as you mentioned. Grip is relative to hand rotation not just holding club in palms.

@@ToddGravesGolf understand. Just saw your video minutes ago on grip, standard grip, natural golf grip, Moe's grip and water bottle grip to exaggerate the oversize, etc. The axis and leverage explanation is easy to understand. Thank you so much!

Thanks for another great explanation. Wondering if you have ever looked at Hendrick Avercamp's landscape paintings from 400 years ago... they look like they are using a single plane set up.

Just looked at them. Looks like Single Plane. Nice.

With the club behind the ball,do you look at club position or forward to the ball position?
@ToddGravesGolf2 жыл бұрын
Look at / through/ the ball.

@@ToddGravesGolf thanks I tried this last Saturday and it was a game changer,even my playing partner said that could be a game changer for you 👌

It wasn't until I realized he didnt put the club 1 ft behind the ball but he actually started his swing plane that I really started stroking it.

This will onLy work if your ball is way forward right? Seems to me you didn’t put the club 7 inches behind the ball, but rather you moved the ball forward 7 inches. Can you explain? Thanks!
@ToddGravesGolf5 жыл бұрын
No. The ball position is normal. Watch this video where I explain it completely: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnS7mnymbL6IjdU

Todd, what movement in the down swing assures hitting the ball versus hitting "behind" the ball? Is it the hip rotation and the lead leg knee bend? Doc Phil
@ToddGravesGolf4 жыл бұрын
Stabilize into the lead leg. Rotate while trail foot stays down.

Todd, I have one more question re addressing the ball. Moe lined the ball up with the heel of the club, you seem to place it more in the middle. Why to both?

Makes a lot of sense to me. Question. Everyone tells us to hit ball first and then take a divot. It doesn't appear to be so easy to do this with this set up. P. S. I don't personally believe the taking a divot theory but that's another issue
@ToddGravesGolf5 жыл бұрын
No good player TRYS to take a divot. A divot occurs because the hands lead into impact - creating a forward lean in the shaft. Forward lean in the shaft occurs because of ball position as well as the lead shoulder position.
@Collwila5 жыл бұрын
@@ToddGravesGolf so this set up would also really help to encourage getting your weight on the front foot to achieve that forward shaft lean. Cool
