The movie bombed in the theaters because of the three endings. People stopped going yo the thesters witndings 1 or 2. The director was blackballed from films for 6 years* until he came back with My Cousin Vinny. *He directed a bunch of TV during that period. The film became popular on video with all three endings included. Each ending is completely separate so Wadsworth being the FBI guy in one has nothing to do with him not being it in another ending.

Madelin Kahn improvised "Flames on the side of my face" scene. From what I understand it took everything in all of the cast not to ruin the scene because they were all fighting the urge to laugh which is probably why it cut away from her kind of quickly.

The quick dialog is killer in this movie.. pun intended. I think one of my favorite underrated line is when they are talking about prof plum’s work. Working homicidal lunatics with delusions of grandeur… now working with the UN… so your work has not changed. Brilliant.
@johncampbell756

Plum works for UNO WHO. Mr. Boddy is played by Lee Ving of punk band Fear. They got banned from Saturday Night Live. The singing telegram was Jane Weidlin of The Go-Gos, second lead singer abd rhythm guitarist. Plum is Doc from Back to the Future. Mr. Green is the lead singer from Spinsl Tap. Mrs. White was in Blazing Saddkes and Young Frankenstein. She admitted the "Flames on the Sifes of my face" bit. Wadsworth is Tim Curry who is excellent in everything from thus, to Rocky Horror, to The Hunt gur Red October and his amazing episode of Psych! Everyone has been in a lot of great stuff.

All three endings were included in this version, but the last two were heavily edited to avoid repeating similar jokes over and over, which really crippled the comic timing of the Peacock ending. I would love to see the unedited versions of all three endings, but as far as I know, they were never released, even as DVD extras.

The three endings were shown at different theatres, but when the VHS came out they added the cards between the endings so that people could see all three endings. When the DVD came out it had a setting for either seeing all three of the endings, like the VHS, or randomly picking one ending, like the movie theatre.

One of my all time favorites! Classic! Something you might have misunderstood, when Mr. Green was going off about him being a homosexual, you see the "butler" (Tim Curry)'s shocked reaction rapidly going through the paperwork. The gag here is that Green is admitting all this stuff about him that the blackmailer didn't actually have information on...but in the end it actually makes sense, because the homosexual claim is actually false and part of Green's cover. Of course the blackmailer would be surprised about it - it's not true information, so he obviously wouldn't have details of it. The whole gag is a big CLUE that Green's homosexual claim is irrelevant to his blackmail or is entirely false.

Thanks to Mikey, Joe and Mike! 🔍 I love this one. ෴ The quickly-dispatched 'singing telegram deliverer' is Jane Wiedlin, member of wildly popular musical group from the 80s, Go-Go's. ෴ 'Mrs. White' was portrayed by the incomparable Madeline Kahn. Check her out in her hilarious cinematic debut, WHAT'S UP, DOC? (1972). ෴ If you'd like to see another mystery/comedy, but far less zany than this one, try DEATHTRAP (1982).

I love that you enjoyed this absolute classic, one of my favorites! Other commenters are already starting to share fun tidbits, so I'll just add that the original DVD release of this movie lets you choose the same "combined" ending you watched (and that was necessary on linear VHS releases), or you can let the DVD player choose a random ending a la the theater experience. Very cool option, IMO. Clue's writer and director, Jonathan Lynn, also directed My Cousin Vinny and The Whole Nine Yards, as well as co-wrote two of my favorite sitcoms of all time: "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister", which also feature lots of witty wordplay. A documentary about this movie called "Who Done It?" came out in 2022, but i haven't seen it yet.

Great movie! I enjoy this movie… so much… that it, flames, flames… on the side of my face… Besides including the well-known characters, weapons, and the whodunnit premise, they put in some other nice details to match the board game as well. Such as: The layout of the house, including the secret passageways, really matches the board, with the parquet floor pattern resembling the movement squares. While the guests’ outfit colors don’t match the game pieces, the color of their cars do. Scarlet and Plum standing in front of the doors even harkens to a rule which prevents any player moving through a door if another player’s piece is occupying the space at that door. The cop isn’t one of the player characters, though, so he seems to not actually be subject to that rule, as he pushes Green away from blocking a door.

Hi guys! I watched over on Patreon, but I'm commenting here for the algorithm. I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy this one as much as much as we hoped. It's not one of my favorites or anything, but if you were older, you'd recognize an all star cast, and you were right, if would have been fun to go multiple times to see which ending that you got. I only went once and didn't see all of the endings until the rental came out with the version we just watched. Oh, and a Den Mother is a women who helps out with a Cub Scout troop in Boy Scouts. So the joke is still funny, it just make it hit in a different way. Sorry that I laughed so hard about the J Edgar Hoover being referred to as President! He was top of mind and even joked about in 90s cartoons like the Animaniacs, but a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then. He was the head of the FBI from the 20s till his death in the early 70s and was very controversial, but the biggest thing that younger people of the times knew him for was being a cross dresser. And we were allowed to make fun of that back then A. because of the times and B. because of how raciest, sexist and evil he was. Thanks for knowing your Hoovers, Mikey! That was a lot of fun on Patreon! You guys do some good edits, but this way, I get all the best jokes and your responses!

I grew up on this movie. Always love it. My parent and their friends would actually go to each others houses to play “who did it?” Clues were everywhere, some fake some not. Each one given closed envelopes telling them who they were and whether they had done it or not. Shuffled as well. The hosts didn’t play because they needed to be there to help if the game got stuck. Obviously they told their guests what rooms they weren’t allowed in. Mom looked GORGEOUS and dad looked amazing when they went to one at another’s houses. One time I looked at her and asked “Are you playing Mrs. Scarlet?” If she hadn’t been wearing makeup I think she’d have cried. This was in the early 90’s and when they had those parties at our house I wasn’t allowed around the house. I probably would have messed up clues because I was a curious kid younger than 6. lol

So Mike was correct. When the movie came out, it had 3 endings, A, B, and C. I know, because I was there. However, I was only able to see 2 out of the 3 endings, which was one of the major reasons why this movie bombed. No one wanted to be forced to see a movie 3 times in order to see every ending. It was only in home media that you can see all 3 in one. But to majestic it make send n sense after the fact, they did the "this is how it could have happened," instead of releasing 3 vidoes.

Also in that ending Wadsworth is Mr Body, if he found out mr Green was a plant he definitely would have killed him or something, makes no sense. And he looked like he was judging him, not confused. It’s bad enough that they have Mr Green say that line at the end talking away from a badass gay character, at least let us have him for the other two endings…

Just found this channel, you guys are super fun. I would suggest researching the actors names, and watching more movies with them in them. (The main six are well known actors, even in the 80’s). Also, sone fun mysteries that other channels aren’t reactions to: Kiss The Girls, Along Came a Spider, Fallen, Wild Things, Two Days in the Valley, Frailty, Identity, Oscar, Soap, Delirious- lots of famous actors. (If you watch Airplane!, make sure to watch Jaws, and Saturday Night Fever first (or at least clips) otherwise you won’t get all the jokes.) Then ask your parents/grandparents what their favorite Airplane! movie scene is, might change your view of them.🫢
