I really would like Tim to stop saying health insurance is annoying. I know a young woman whose doctor wanted to perform an MRI because she was experiencing acute pain in her tailbone. Her request was denied and deemed unnecessary. Two years later, after the pain became unbearable, they finally did an MRI and found a mass on her tailbone. It turned out to be a rare form of cancer. She is in her early thirties and hasn’t yet had the chance to have children. The doctor told her that even with treatment, the cancer is likely to return. The mass had grown so large that they had to take skin from another part of her body to close the area. This all happened because her insurance company denied the MRI two years earlier. Health care is not just annoying-it is a matter of life or death for many people. I do not want people to be harmed or lose their lives because of neglectful policies. I want our lawmakers to intervene. UnitedHealthcare has been accused of using AI to deny bulk claims, robbing people not only of their health but also of their lives.

The thing is: while I don’t condone what happened to Brian Thompson, it’s also somewhat crazy that we’re just supposed to “socially accept” that these “middlemen” between us and our doctors are essentially allowed to commit “secondhand genocide” on us through pie charts, spreadsheets, and P&L reports. And when you understand this, it’s not difficult to realize WHY people reacted the way they did.

Tim - the people who are identifying with a common dispise of health insurance really don't give a shit about the guy who actually pulled the trigger. They don't know him - they don't care to know him - and they don't care if HIS story is the 'story line' you speak of. What they know is that they absolutely relate to a deep seated hatred and resentment of health insurance companies because of how those companies (and specifically the people who run them) don't give a rats ass about anyone except their stockholders. I do not condone murder. Full stop. I also understand the sentiment. JVL is right - two things can be true at the same time.

You guys don't get this. People are not horrible for feeling the way they did about this CEO. United healthcare was NOT paying any of the bills they owed our clinic and the clinic told us to find a new clinic, or insurance company. Because United does not pay their BILLS and the CEO made how much a year?? Not only that, I am living in excruciating PAIN because I cannot pay the $1400 a month to buy my medicine and I appealed 3 times for them not to reject my medicine, I had been on for 5 years. Only to find out that the CEO set the appeals to be denied by AI. When I think of my heartfelt appeals practically begging to stay on a medicine that made it able for me to live like a normal human, you know to be able to walk and use a pencil you know little things like that. .Im sorry But when I heard about his Murder I felt nothing. In fact I said to my Husband I'm surprised it took this long.

I'm sorry, but when Tim is like, "Insurance sucks, insurance is annoying" I feel that that is REALLY understating how bad the US health insurance industry is. Comparing health insurance to auto or home insurance is nonsense. So you get into a fender-bender or crack a windshield, and you have to spend a little time on the phone with Geico or whatever... stressful, annoying, sure. But it's NOTHING like physically suffering or watching a loved one suffer needlessly, as doctors TRY to help, but insurance companies deny claims. Comparing the emotional trauma of struggling to pay for your child's chemo to the mild hassle of a cracked windshield is super tone-deaf. In this country, we force people to go to battle against insurance companies -- which they have duly paid into -- at a time when they are at their most vulnerable, pained, and scared. It is inhumane and cruel, and that's one reason why every other developed nation does not do this. I am in no way excusing the slaying of CEOs, but it's intellectually dishonest to simply shrug your shoulders at the public's emotional & complicated reaction to the shooting and say, "Meh, insurance is annoying."

Why? When has the bulwark even been pro-worker? All these people were pro-big business political professionals before Trump, pushing GOP economic policies that help corps and their CEOs because that's who bankrolled their campaigns... and then Trump took over the GOP, the rich went with Trump because they don't care about the person or values, they want the political power... the same reason they courted the bulwark-types before trump, to buy their way into getting the laws that help their businesses... These bulwark clowns lost power and were abandoned by the wealthy (so now they podcast) but still think their views on economic policy are correct... the same tax cuts for the rich and corps policy corruption that gave us the oligarchs that have now come to power with Trump. They may be anti-Trump... but they are not our allies against the oligarchs. They are status quo defenders because the status quo has made them comfortable, and they are terrified that a change in that status quo would be a loss of their status and personal comfort within society.

Tim's fear of joining Bluesky because he thinks the left (and not the right and center) are celebrating the murder of the UnitedHealthcare CEO is misplaced. He should note that both Matt Walsh and Ben Shapiro posted YT vids saying that the left were the ones cheering and got dragged by their own conservative supporters. Shapiro and Walsh's fans commented that they were both out of touch and that they hated insurance execs, too. It seems that the left aren't the only ones with loved ones. People on the right and center also have loved ones and if someone causes their deaths by denying them health coverage, they are passionately opposed to this. Who knew? The comment sections of both Ben and Matt were filled with conservatives' hatred of insurance execs happy that this one died. So don't fear Bluesky, hatred of insurance execs is a uniting position. Now I don't know anyone who supports killing execs. But hatred of these execs seems to be universal and not limited to any one political group.

When you are the person who breaks something, you don't get credit for being a great guy fixing it; there would NOT have been the wars in Ukraine and Israel the way they happened without Biden's foreign policy!!! It's true ol' Trumpy was the first US president to commit treason to the standard of the only crime defined in the Constitution, but that's only because Biden was elected after he was. He'd been arguing for that shameful exit from Afghanistan since he was VP, with Obama first trying to educate him on his idiocy in that area and then finally telling him to STFU and stop jawing at him about it! And IF Israel hadn't ignored all the whining and crying from the American left about fighting a war the way wars are fought if you want to win them, then even that weakening wouldn't have happened! Then because the Democratic Party and "opinion journalists" repping for them took the age is just a number, he's the energetic go getter and most loved party leader in Dem history with the best legislative record since FDR who'll be super great at taking the fight to Trump and pretended reality didn't exist and news was so filter bubbled Hunter and the fam could echo the talking points and reassure Biden of is greatness even as he sank the fight against Trump like he was captaining an Oceangate sub! Then he spent his last come to Jesus call before quitting screaming at Representative Jason Crow that he was the greatest foreign-policy leader in the world and that Beau Biden's Bronze Star for sitting in a protected office trying to avoid the dangers of paper cuts in a few months playing dress up military Ken was comparable to being a Green Beret who actually earned a Bronze Star for valor!!! We lost fewer American lives in TWENTY YEARS in Afghanistan than we did on ONE DAY in September, without repeats of major incidents on home soil. Now?!? We'll have Kash Patel signing QAnon slogans in books at Barnes & Noble or playing reindeer games against enemies like the last living paper boys delivering print copies of WaPo and the NYT while Kristi Noem bats doe-eyed lashes at the Iranian terrorists sent calling because they need a win against the Great Satan that's the theocratic version of owning the libs!!!

One more video where Tim doesn't get the point, isn't wanting to discuss the real issues around the CEO shooting, and really can't see the forrest for the trees. He is too hung up on the crime itself and not what people think the crime represents. When you are talking about the reactions of the American people, the truth about the crime and the criminal himself almost don't really matter. People's reactions show more about themselves, where they are in their lives, and what they want out of the world. And it's not death, no matter how much conservatives instinctively demonize the left (even after they leave the GOP). But it is that regular people want the rich to face consequences for their actions and they want the people who cause the suffering of millions of people pay. They want the rich to be treated just like how they are being treated. They want the rich to feel how they feel. They want the rich to be scared because they are scared and they want to feel like they have more control of their lives. They want the rich to be punished and the rich constantly get away with everything. It's really not hard to understand other people's reactions even if you disagree with them. I bet Tim understands why people like the story of Robin Hood or John Wick. Or Daredevil or the Punisher or Batman or Spiderman or literally the hundreds of vigilante heroes that dominate our entertainment media. Many of whom kill. It's really just not hard to understand why the little people like it that a person might fight against corporate oligarchs who screw over the little people. I don't know how else to say that the reactions about the shooting aren't actually about the shooting. Right or wrong, it's not about the truth, it's about how it makes people feel. But at least Sarah and JVL saw it and are willing to talk some of the "why" behind the reaction of the shooting. They are completely right, though, Democrats can find a way to use this. I can't tell if Tim is just a completely black/white thinker, has issues with empathy of people he disagrees with, or he is just refusing to think deeper than surface level. He just seems to have issues getting into the minds of other people. At least with this, I've seen other videos where he is eager and willing to understand different viewpoints he doesn't agree with. But it also shows a bit of a political weakness he has. I don't know how he could help run campaigns while being out of touch with people who aren't like him. Also just weirdly stuck on "lefties are bad" while barely mentioning how bad the other side is. I guess old habits die hard.

Also that there have been days if covered by the media talking about how horrible this murder was, while every other murder across this country gets zero coverage, especially if it was a gun death of someone who made less then he made in a day, in a year. Mass shootings in schools get thoughts and prayers while this moraless human gets media to defend his background. It doesn't mean that vigilantes should be heralded as a hero, this wasn't a vigilante, he is a murderer, but the media is as moraless as the murderer, period. The lack of empathy isn't because people are happy he's dead. It's a real lack of feeling because he was a man who, regardless of if he felt any at anytime, focused on his own rise into money instead of serving the people who he carried an enormous responsibility to protect because they paid him to care, and he didn't. Most people aren't thinking about this rationality, but feeling it.

Murder is NOT justified by being upset about policy and systems. I’m a die hard Democrat and am horrified by the “support” this gunman has had. A man died. In cold blood. The healthcare system is broken. Killing this father is not going to change healthcare. My G-d, DJT was just elected b/c he has “concepts of a plan” after 4 years of doing nothing on fixing healthcare. The Trumpers were horrified at the attempts on his life but are cheering for this murderer? I believe in justice but not justice by a sole gunman who has decided to be judge, jury and executioner.

How many bills have you had to pay out of pocket after you got those tests because the insurance after the fact denied them? Tim, it seems, is one of the lucky few in the US who has no idea how the rest of us actually die based on these company’s gunners’ decisions as they make their way up the corporate ladder Very few people are celebrating. And if we're meant to be toppling capitalism to solve this core aspect rather than reform, this assassination is very counterproductive. Now they're all watching and waiting for the repeats, then big ol security contractors slaps em down, we hear a lot of "this is a pattern" and out come the authoritarian big guns. I had a good doctor here in Missouri. Last year he told me he was retiring from the profession, not because he's getting up there, but because he was sick and tired of fighting this horrific "healthcare" system we have in the United States He told me that "it's not about helping people, and it's not about working for good outcomes for patients." I asked him if it was just "all about the money?" and he replied "Basically, yeah" while shaking his head in agreement. I am glad to say that he did not completely retire, and I saw him once when my new doctor wasn't available. He works part-time now. But the truth of the matter is that our system totally blows, and if you're poor and uninsured, you're just shit out of luck. How are the working poor supposed to pay for "health" insurance?

The real problem for the US healthcare system is, as with politics, money. In Europe: - surgeons are not paid upward of $500000 - hospital CEOs are not paid $5m - health insurance CEOs are not paid $10m - we do not have a litigious society so that all practitioners have to take out exorbitant malpractice insurance - drug prices are negotiated at a national level (like the Biden deal on insulin) and are much cheaper - we do not have so many intermediaries and lobbies sucking more dollars out of the system So, in Western Europe, the health system costs around half of that in the US - for better average outcomes (higher life expectancy). Sure, with ageing populations the system is under strain but at least there is a base to start from. You should listen to Bernie Sanders on this one.

To the final point in this video, I think JVL's analysis is correct. I also think the details of this case do not matter to most people. This incident has become symbolic of the frustration working and middle-class Americans feel towards a system of corruption. They also connect with the feeling of desperation this act symbolizes. You do not have to condone or believe in the validity of violence to recognize how the American psyche is wrestling with this. And i'm really not sure if rehashing it in the media in anyway other than "the American people do not like their corrupt healthcare system," is useful, politically or otherwise... just my 2 cents.

There is a difference between agreeing that the killing is justified vs. feeling empathy for the underlying reasons. It's very important to call out vigilante actions are wrong. But talking about the reasons for it is the right thing to do as people are hurting and that needs to be discussed. The bubbling up of anger people are expressing, the empathy towards the killer is because I think they are putting themselves in his shoes. Not that the majority are agreeing with the killing. It's a groundswell of anger, hurt, and worry that has built up. A lot of people have been buried by medical costs and have been abandoned by insurance they thought they were covered for.

"You can't govern by writing shit on a post-it note!" J. V. Last I fucking LOVE that! Edit to add later commentary: Tim--I think-- is wrong about the murder of the UnitedHealthcare CEO "not changing anything". The corp almost immediately walked back a new policy to pass on anesthesia "overages" to their patients. For sure the right thing to do in the face of healthcare corporate greed but by doing so they have also set a chilling reward precedent; "oh...is that what it takes to change policy?" Also, Tim's comment that no one should be murdered is spot on but neglects the countless folks whose lives have been lost due to denied health service. Should those poor folks also have been "murdered" by corporate greed? Or is it ok when a corporation does it? Because Citizens United says corps are people and if that's true then the CEOs and other executives are the walking human embodiment of what that means. Finally, Tim's contention that the people "rejoicing" (yes, I fully agree this is wrong) are having private little fantasies in their own minds about this murderer fully fails to understand Sarah's earlier point of how many commentators are reacting to this news with stories of horrendous healthcare issues that they themselves have experienced. These reactions are the farthest thing from fantasies you can have because they are absolutely relating due to their own experiences and sharing their anger and sorrow at the intersection of this moment. The United States really needs to end the madness that is their healthcare system. You folks are the only nation who puts healthcare industry profits over people's actual health. Good luck. Great, heartfelt discussion though. I appreciate you people.

Well. That slightest shiver is about as effective as anything else trying to reign in the corporate greed. Corporate greed has got to feel even worse when these people also happen to be living in the richest and purportedly greatest country in the world. Rich parents depriving children of basic necessities and poor parents who can't afford the necessities is not the same thing. A system of disregard for life and health replacing human rights, whether the reason is corporate greed, racism, anti-Semitism, misogyny, religion, the purported reason might vary to suggest degrees of bad maybe, but in the general sense of the concept, a system that contributes to preventable deaths to people en masse at the end of the day is still just bad.

I am NOT advocating murder, but as an intellectual exercise, can we ask ourselves, what can we actually do to change this? Stop paying health care premiums? Making money on denying people human rights is not ever going to sit well with people, and there seems little sympathy for a life lived in promoting that.

Cavenaugh was not fit. He felt he deserved power because he had been told his whole career, whilst being groomed for the highest seat in law, to be handed it, without having to have morals or justification. Hegseth came about this offer in an entirely different way. The only similarity he and Cavenaugh have is that they don't deserve the power being handed to them because they are amoral, regardless of why, just that they are.

Tim - i think Sarah is right, that healthcare was an untapped political power in politics that went unconsidered and unacted upon. The collective subconscious being that the violence that happened brought to light a realization of how bad a system got to that no politicians were really laying out their fight against both healthcare and corporate greed in our country. I think it even extends to more than healthcare and more into unethical business practices done by oligarchs where there is no justice served. The people want an anti-corruption based party and healthcare reform policy to the point they support extremists offering their support in lethal ways to do it if the government won't or can't bring justice to them. They'll for damn sure across party lines vote for an 'anti-corruption' party if someone starts selling it hard and being transparent about how corrupt the system underneath truly is.

I get the regret by many but understand those who are indifferent for the CEO. I've lost my most significant family member to botched care and declined insurance. I've had my own battles over denied charges. Thank you NY State for laws against that (where we can start reforms by blocking big insurance fraud denials of coverage). I've paid over$150,000 in insurance over last 18 years and I seldom see a doctor. Can't get an appt. Get a referral, but care is billed to me in full. Sorry, the shooting is wrong, the feeling is understood. Healthcare here is a sham.

I live about 1 block from the United headquarters in Minnesota. One thing I'm not seeing in the news is that one of our HMO's (HealthPartners) notified United in August that they would cancel their contract because of their low rate of approving needed MRI's, CT scans, cancer treatments, etc and making the HealthPartners patients sicker. HealthPartners is a large Medicare Advantage plan provider in the Twin Cities and pissing off thousands of people is not a good idea. United ended up having to renegotiate the contract. For clarification, HealthPartners owns its own buildings, UnitedHealth contracts to use the specialty equipment.

Yes, the untapped well of anger at feeling POWERLESS! Mid level office worker type people played by the rule ‘pay your insurance premium to get what you deserve’ and then the insurance company says ‘no’. SUCKER PUNCH! BY A BULLY! I am a solo provider (psychotherapist) and half of my practice was insurance. I did my own billing and I have lost thousands of dollars over the years because billing was difficult for the crap amount they paid. I’d just give up. They finally raised our reimbursement rate $5 and now Cigna (my last insurance company) is doubling the amount of their co -pay. No increase to me but my patient is now paying $40 a session rather than $20. All of us feel cheated, fucked over and mad.
