What is Clumping? Why do it?

My alternative, neither as elegant nor fast, was to use GRASS r.to.vect, calculate areas and delete below a threshold, then delete holes (with threshold) before simplifying and filtering (with buffering thrown in for good measure). Thanks for the clear, and now obviously very useful, explanation.

hi dude, you said that radius = 2 is equal to a moving windows of 5x5. So, which is the size of the windows when radius is 3 or 4? thank you so much!
