I have come across a 99 Maxima 5 speed manual for $700, apparently all it needs is the clutch slave cylinder replaced so many thanks for this vid!

Hi Randy. Very nice photography. I stumbled on your video after trying to find information on changing/flushing the clutch fluid on my 95 Maxima 5 speed. My factory service manual says to iteratively bleed the two nipples found on the slave cylinder and clutch piping assembly. The manual says to pump the clutch pedal (assistant), hold pedal to floor, open bleeder to release air/fluid, close bleeder, and repeat. However, I am finding that the pedal remains at the floor and must be pulled up manually at which point it can be depressed and will return up by itself as many times as you desire as it normally operates until you repeat the cycle again. This happened for the entire procedure as I alternated between the two bleeder nipples and I finally figured that perhaps this is normal but was quite tedious for the assistant to also be responsible for also pulling the clutch pedal off the floor and resetting it. Indeed the fluid did flush out quite nicely and turn clear eventually so I do know it flowed through the system. One video I found said that the pedal might stick but then eventually as the concentric slave cylinder fills, it will start behaving normally but I didn't know what that meant. Other sites say in some cars the pedal will always stick to the floor as I have described and have to be manually lifted each cycle. Do you know if what I experienced was normal or should I have done something differently? Also, do you know if it is possible to perform a flush by simply opening the lower bleeder nipple at the transmission housing and do a gravity bleed? Thanks!

That sounds "normal" to me. It takes much longer than one would expect. You did it the only way you can. Gravity bleeding it will not work with this car, but boy do I wish it would. Thanks for the feedback. I am very happy to be able to help anyone.

@@randyancell5386 Thanks Randy. Did you ever bleed the clutch on your Maxima? Did your pedal always remain at the floor as I described until you manually pull it up? You confused me when you said "it takes much longer than one would expect" which made me think you thought it should eventually return up on its own. And, again, it does return up on its own AFTER it is pulled up and you can pump and it it will release as many times as you want UNTIL you depress, hold down, and open either bleeder again, close bleeder, and then it is stuck to the floor again. I posted this on another youtube video and the fellow thought there was air (even though the system had never been opened up) and suggested a gravity drain from the lower bleeder. I tried that today but saw zero air bubbles. I think I'm going to run it through the factory service manual procedure one more time, this time with more pedal pumping before opening the bleeders, and conclude this is what is supposed to happen - especially if it drives fine afterwards.
