People take the little things for granted sometimes. Lost my dad at 8-1/2 so it’s nice to see an adult run over to dads or work with dad and they both enjoy it. Not feeling sorry for myself at all, just pointing out how cool it is. That’s why I try to be there for everything my 9 near old asks me to do. I want her to count on me like Sean counts on his dad whether he realizes it or not. I see where Sean gets his patience from, what a good trait to have. Oh and lights lights light lol….. Have a great week guys.

Sean, I know you were joking about women drivers BUT I got 140,000 miles out of my stock clutch in my 04 Dakota. It literally lost the springs in the plate. I even helped the mechanic change it. Good job on that truck, it is a good ol truck.
@truracer20
@truracer20 13 күн бұрын
A truck parts and repair shop I worked in had a 94 Dakota shop truck with many different drivers and we replaced the original clutch at 170,000 miles. We specialized in mack and Cummins engines and that little red Dakota picked up and delivered hundreds of them all over western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. That was a good truck but the clutch amazed me. What finally killed it was a new hire that thought he knew how to drive a stick. There were at least a dozen drivers that wracked up those 170K miles. Though we did nearly kill the engine at 150k because of a catalytic converter failure. the catalyst broke and plugged the exhaust.

Get down to Paul’s and get some alignment check done on that truck, the new toy in his new shed looks incredible to play with, jealous of the size of your workshops out there and the 2 pillar lifts you all have, struggled to get a 21’ x 13’ with just 8’ clear height, here in the uk, even that’s pushing the permitted development here for a shed 🙃

Little thing I learned on those 2nd gen crossmembers, while I was at Dodge. Service info called for the Use of a porta power between the rails, just behind the t case, and slip it in. Made life so much easier. If you have to change them on the ground, so you have the trans on a jack still, you can pick up one side of the frame and use the frame flex to spread the rails. That’s how I install the belly bands on KW W900s these days

An old trick to doing clutches by yourself. Use a couple of sticks of all thread. One on each side. Slide the trans back on the all thread supported by the trans jack. then when you go back it just slides up the all thread and seats. I use to do cast iron Clark 4 speeds that way.

Thanks for the video. All that because someone drives with their foot setting on the clutch pedal too often. It would've needed it in a few thousand miles, but it may've been too hot then. It's easier to warm the shop,than to cool it in July.

Happy New Year to you and your family, I enjoy watching your videos because I can relate to what you’re doing , I have a 2001 dodge with a 6spd I put in the same dual disc clutch from south bend I almost didn’t align the red marks , but when I had the transmission out I replaced the rear main seal and I took off the trans adapter to replace the oil pan gasket so much easier, I also replaced the power steering pump and that took awhile trying to line up the cross on vacuum pump with the steering pump and to get to the nut that’s inside towards the block to unscrew and to screw on and that’s when I noticed where my power steering box bolts to the frame there were hairline cracks so I had to take off the box which was also leaking and welded the frame and got a rebuilt red head box , since your dodge is a 6spd it has the high out put just like mine, anyway take care and stay safe in the new year

Nice repairs on the old Dodge. I know it's the right tool but those trans jacks just don't seem well suited for such a long trans/transfer case combination. I think everyone who has ever done a clutch job has a 3-foot long extension. I know I do. The trans went back it surprisingly easy. I thought it would have fought you more. Good tip about plasma cutting the old u-joint out. I changed the ones on my front driveshaft a couple months ago and had a heck of a time getting them out. Next time I'll know better!

Great video Shawn, love that fully adjustable tranny jack, that thing is sweet. One thing I do when working by myself is i hook about 8 bungee straps up to the trans pulling hard forward to aid with the tranny going in, rotate the tranny and a little wiggle, she usually drops right in. Keep up the great work on your channel, I think you are doing good job with things. Jay from central Pa.
