This is one of my very favourite single malts...a bit funny how the two couldn't exactly agree on this one. It takes time to get to know. An exciting yet sophisticated balancing act between sweet, salty, and bitter (can't remember if there was some sour as well), unique waxy texture and notes, like candles made from beeswax, it also holds up amazingly to water, and more depth gets revealed.

Yes one odd the few scorched where I'll add some water damn it tastes good. Also very cheap for 1 14 year old. Normally like 56euro. But today another shop sold it for 47eu a bottle so I bought 2 😛🥃

One of my favourite whiskies. Very underrated, very unique flavour profile. For the price (about 35 euro's in the Netherlands) there is no better whisky on the market.

For those of you who are interested in a more in-depth review of this fantastic single malt, Ralfy reviewed it in Ralfy Review 634; a wonderful review of a wonderful single malt; I feel he gives this one its real due, which I rarely find that Lüning, Horst Lüning does, frankly..
@johnw2184 жыл бұрын
Yes, if anything they seemed a bit underwhelmed by it . Ralfy really seemed to endorse this one though so I went and bought a bottle. So far ,based on a few sips ,this is the closest thing to a good tequila I've tasted in a whisky .
@groberti3 жыл бұрын
@@johnw218 But then again whiskey is subjective :D What Ralfy might like does not mean Horst will like for example :D I myself not always agree with Ralfy nor Horst, ie. Ralfy did not like Talisker 10 that much which I myself find amazing etc

Hi Horst, you must have read my mind. I have been scouring the internet for this for a while now. Not readily available in South Africa unfortunately but planning to get this version or the Signatory 10 Year that was released in August 2018 after being distilled in 2008. I believe Clynelish is a major contributor to JW Blends and I have had the pleasure of enjoying a bottle of Compass Box Spice Tree that also has a strong infuence of Clynelish as noted on their website and also noted on their box where they specify their blend as leaning more towards the Brora region. Really keen to get one of these. Even willing to trade a Highland Park 18 for one or two of these

Haven’t had this one in a while but I remember thinking it was very peppery, briney, and warm in the throat... had sort of a dryer sheet thing going on… floral, but in an artificial way. That may not sound promising but I remember liking it a lot... related in my mind to old pultney and Bunnahabhain-seawater vibes
@shawndonovan12124 жыл бұрын
Random note, but I see the Makers Mark bottle in the background that has a lot of wax on it. The bottle dippers count the bottles they’ve dipped and every 1000th bottle, they “dunk” it. Learned this at the distillery a couple years back. Love clynelish though!

The Brora Distillery was founded as Clynelish Distillery but due to demand a new Clynelish Distillery was build what let to confusion and the original Clynelish being renamed to Brora.

I quite liked Clynelish 14 after reading so many reviews but won't be buying again as it is too sweet for me. Surprisingly few drops of water makes it better and rounded. However, I can confidently say it is one of the core blends in JW Double Black (which I don't like either now as my palate has matured and preferences changed).

Hi horst and Ben I wish you could rate your whiskeys, because no one includeding myself knows what you think of the whiskey, I have expressed interest in what you think of a particular whiskey, but you never say if you like it or not, which leaves all of us wondering what you think, I want to know what you think of a scotch, not just to that you drink whiskey, I'm wanting to know how you rate a whiskey, have I made my point yet, we want to know a score !!!

I have a hard time understanding the hype. I've had my fair share of beginner and intermediate whiskies, so i thought I'd try this one. I was completely overwhelmed by its bitter taste, couldn't enjoy it at all. I tried pouring it and leaving it for 1-2 hours, it improved quite a bit, the bitterness was still present but not overwhelming but still doesn't live up to what I hoped for.
