The rifle grenade moment was a lot of fun.

Yeah, nothing really new in this mission: the Airborne troops got a good look in Turnbull's Stand and the tactics are the same ones I've been using to attack since the beginning. Pretty stand up mission. Could have been a lot tougher (read: longer and more interesting) if I'd gotten a more challenging AI plan. Got some new toys to talk about in the next mission though and the one after that looks a little different.

Last time I tried this mission, there was a StuG positioned on the left flank (near to the first MG you spotted). While I was dithering around trying to deal with it (which included shifting Shermans over from my right flank), my stationary paras got turned into pate by a couple of fiendishly accurate and effective artillery/mortar strikes. Should have pushed harder on the right, I guess. Great video, as always.

Mine was completely different from both of yours. I ran into no enemy tanks, and I also had no artillery support. What is having the off-map arty support based upon? I did find this mission fairly easy regardless as I had what was essentially overwhelming MG and mortar fire. I'm playing Elite, though, if that makes any differences. edit: wait I take that back. I knocked out two StuGs with infantry/zooka flanking. But I definitely didn't have any off-map arty.

@@spittlefish5208 Does performance in previous missions affect the availability of arty? Also, sometimes the assets are shared across missions, so if you use all your arty in one mission it won't be available in the next. Not sure. I was on elite or iron, I can't remember exactly which. I didn't know that enemy AI deployment could vary so much, tbh.

@@JamesWB100 Yeah it seems that way. I know one mission I started and none of my mortar guys even had rounds, presumably cause I exhausted them prior.

Not only are there different AI plans for each mission, but there are sometimes different versions of each mission depending on how you've done in the campaign up to that point. So there can actually be a lot of variation between playthroughs.

@@usuallyhapless9481 That's right. I remember checking the structure of one of the campaigns and it looked like a spiders web. It's almost like it has dynamic difficulty settings. My last attempt at this put me off CM for a while; there only so much misery and frustration I want to put myself through in my spare time! Feel like I should start girding my loins to get back into it though...

I enjoy campaigns most. Most realistic, most nerve wrecking, true tactics and war on the go. Please do more campaigns like this.

If you want a challenge try my new Scenario located in the Italian Section on the forums. GhostRider3/3 here. "A Once Quiet Town" and the German Counterattack after. :) Always trying to make realistic battles, whether its an assault, German defense in depth etc.

My version of this mission had stug deployed on left and right, with an AT gun near the farm. I scouted the road all the way behind the enemy position and found no mines or resistance, so I simply moved the tanks and a platoon up the road, split the enemy, and flanked both directions while also shooting the enemy from the front.

Infantry combat is very Hobbsian: nasty, brutish, and short. Nice video!

Hate the term pixeltruppen. I know it’s a game but it completely ruins the immersion and the compelling story you are trying to tell
