Here in Australia we use a smaller and more compact version in a composting heap of some design. It could be a rolling bin that just tumbles the ingredients around inside of it or it could be a hollow plastic tube with a lid, it all ends up as compost eventually. I think the rototiller design could be improved a bit more, I've seen rototiller attachments farmers use and not only are they faster they're more efficient.

seems good at sorting the apples back out... iunno, i woulda expected more mulching... i know they break down but takes longer... meh. almost tempted to go turn my own heap. not so fun when its by hand.

The acidity in the apples probably wouldn't help the composting much.
