@@michaelhardwick8382 Not to disagree without research, but Graham was doing this in the early to mid-60s with mom. They performed together, but didn't have a drummer. I first heard him do this with Sly, in Berkeley, Ca., about 1967, '68. My uncle was in "college" up there, and the family visited and we would a couple outdoor concerts. Jamerson was a master, I just remember him pop the bass in that way. Can you point me to a tune he did it on?

For all you bass nerds, the real ones know... The drummer is the great, Perry Wilson. He was Sonny Rollins’ longtime drummer and played on Cassandra Wilson’s albums, LaVert, The Crusaders and The Temptations. He could (and did) do it all, this was a time to just hold it down, which he did incredibly. He played this festival with Crusaders.

I can think of a couple other duos. Victor Wooten has a brother who also plays bass. And I once saw Tony Levin and Trey Gunn on stage together, playing dual sticks. I think the challenge is less the raw talent, and more the ability to work with someone in that environment without it melting down, and I expect a lot of people can't do that well.
