This was recently discussed on the Battlefront forums and they made it very clear that an early war module is NOT happening. The time and effort to code all the early war vehicles and TO&E would not be cost effective for them because they don't believe the sales would be there to justify it. So, no "Blitzkrieg" module. No Barbarossa module. No early war North Africa. (I'd buy any and all of them, but understand BF's reasoning for passing.)

@@mkeogh76 Sounds like we need to get more people to buy Combat Mission so they can take more financial risks haha. Though I do find it interesting they thought Soviet Afghanistan would generate more interest than the Battle of France. I guess for Afghan they used assets that could also be used for cold war and we shock force, but a lot of early war stuff is already in fortress italy sooo...

What an atmosphere. That looked like something out of the Terminator. It's easy to forget this was the fate of countless cities in the East. I visited Kolobrzeg a few years ago, it looks quaint and ancient, and I didn't know it had been rebuilt brick-by-brick post war as it had been totally destroyed. It was also the location for the utterly bonkers Goebbels late war 'Festung Kolberg' propaganda feature.

You did quite a bit better than I did playing this mission, still forced the Germans into surrendering but I took around 50 dead 50 wounded, mostly through mortar fire, mines, and impatient play on my part trying to root out the defenders around the mortars in that corner of the map, the Germans in my game really did not want to surrender and fought almost to the last man.

This looks intriuging! Hope you will upload more of this (maybe even some multiplayer?). I honestly think it is harder to fight with a weaker, more numerous army than it is to fight with a stronger, smaller army.

Would be interesting to see if the Germans even have a chance in this DLC or if the odds are so severely stacked against them it is an exercise in delay
@usuallyhapless94813 жыл бұрын
I should really depend on the scenario. There are plenty of historical instances where the Germans were able to pull off minor tactical victories and counterattacks. Nothing that was going to change the trajectory of the war, but in theory enough scenario concepts out there.

The interesting thing I find with the Soviets is their a mix of both brutal and soft strategies used when required. Sometimes when your given a tank company and tank riders, in most Euro campaigns you would keep your infantry back to help clean up and spot and use your tank to win fire superiority before advancing. However, with the Soviets your actually encouraged to roll forward with both, using the tanks to take the small arms fire and deliver a hellish suppressive return fire while your infantry ride on before adding in their SMGs and dismounting to take the enemy positions. Yes it will leave you with considerably more casualties but in practice it actually works quite effectively and actually supersizingly doesn’t leave as many casualties as you think. However, they are also quite interesting in their mission where sitting back, bombarding an area with artillery for a while and then sending in the infantry to clean up is also quite an interesting strategy.
@Syndie7022 жыл бұрын
Shock and Firepower are both necessary components to an attack. A deficiency in one can be made up for by increasing the other. This is not to say that either the Soviets or Allies are deficient - the Soviets are fully capable of putting the lead out and Allies can definitely rush an objective - but Soviet doctrine is willing to sacrifice a bit of fires at the tactical level to increase Shock. This is because their doctrine emphasizes operational speed. It might be apocryphal, but a German soldier remarked during the Normandy campaign "If the Americans used their infantry as aggressively as the Soviets, they'd be in Paris by now." It was thought that putting more fire out would reduce casualties, but I'm not so sure. Even if you have fire superiority, allowing your enemy to shoot at you longer will result in taking casualties. It's not hard to imagine an American company taking twenty casualties as they spend all day vectoring in air support and fires onto a German position, spread out over several hours of fighting, whereas a Soviet company might take fifteen casualties just storming the position up front after pummeling it with tank fire. Fifteen casualties in fifteen minutes may feel like a lot of casualties, especially if it's only one engagement out of several in a day, but attrition is basically a constant anyway so the faster the battle is over, the less of it you deal with. While modern US Army doctrine has not sacrificed firepower, they emphasize shock more than they did in WW2, so there's something. Again, you need both, but there is a bit of a contradiction as it takes time to build fire superiority and the longer you take, the less shock you have. So there's something to the Red Army's way of war. I just got through Anne Frank's diary, and couldn't help but notice that she was captured well after the Allies landed in Europe. Sometimes ending the war quicker is worth the risk.

Sounds like your artillery stonking shortened the battle. A dozen surviving Germans sitting on the objective would have meant you needing to cross the road and physically occupy the city block. A disputed objective would've cost you 600 points.

I think the FO thinking is way to "modern" and not suited for the Szenario aka WW2 you are in. Artillerie should be used as area denial weapon on a larger scale so you can focus your forces on point and prevent the enemy sending in reinforcement's and threaten your attack's flank. the point fiere and call indirect fiere on new targets is a kind of cold war modern times thing. So prepatory fier eon the objective and area suppression on points you dont want the enemy to be for a log time.
