Which small piece?? The Lock Nut Aka Spanner Nut? Yes.. Well.. Drilled... more than cut. There is a notch in the Primary Transmission shaft. the Factory uses a Punch to press the Lip of the spanner nut into the notch/grove to keep it from loosening off the clutch basket. The tiny indent to on the Spanner nut must be drilled out.. 1/16" bit should be fine. Make sure to get as much of the metal flakes out as you can.. when re installing.. I just get the nut very slightly tighter than OEM.. it should be fine without "locking" it to the Transmission shaft..

@@jamesdecarlo6829 no... ... if your not replacing the entire basket, I wouldn't remove the locking "spanner" nut.. the plates can be installed while it's on the bike...
