CN 6060 From Stettler to Big Valley and Back

Steam locomotive CN 6060 "The Spirit of Alberta" is a 4-8-2 Mountain type steam locomotive known to CN as a U-1-f class. 20 of these were built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1944. 6060 is owned by the Rocky Mountain Rail Society and powered excursions through Big Valley, Alberta. Currently it is down for maintenance but hopefully will return to service soon.

This video was uploaded by Steve Boyko after David's death, on the request of David's widow Pat. She wants to share David's work with everyone. This video was part of the OBE video "Canadian Trains from the Atlantic to the Pacific Volume 1". Apologies for any errors or omissions in the captions.
This video was recorded using a tripod-mounted camcorder on VHS videotape and then digitized, so the quality is not as good as David's later work.

Thanks for posting. I happened to be in Stettler this summer and watched and filmed Alberta Prairie Railway Engine No. 41 pulling out of the station, pulling the same passenger cars that 6060 was pulling in the above video. I will miss David very much, as a friend and also as a valuable contributor to both our Dartmouth Model RR club and the IWK Children's Hospital Model Railroad.

Little tip. I caught word that 6060 is getting its repairs this month and may be back up running for the summer.

In my opinion the 6060 is the only operating bullet nose Betsy streamline Canadian national locomotive

It does not run anymore, it needs boiler work sadly. Which is a shame considering it was the only really big Canadian steam locomotive in operation

that's not an opinion, that is fact: only 3 "bullet nose Betty" locomotives survive; 6060, 6069 and 6077. 6060 is the only one that is running, while 6069 and 6077 are on static display.
