I’m surprised they decided to make that crossing a quiet zone (meaning they don’t blow the horn). The electronic bell is made by a different company as to other ones you would see elsewhere on the sub. The gate mechanism is also different to other ones you would see. Siemens advertises it as a “Smart” gate mechanism with some new technology inside. I personally prefer these electronic bells more over the ones CN has been putting on new crossings or as replacements on existing crossings for the last decade as they aren’t as high pitched.

Actually, as far as I know there never was a whistle post for the crossing. Normally, for a quiet zone the whistle sing has a W with a red slash though it. I do not think there are signs here. Trains hardly ever would blow for the crossing. Only once in a while. I will lokk more carefully on the west approach next time I am there to see if there is any. You are right that the bell is better then some of the other electronic ones.

@ They wouldn’t have blown for it before as it was a private crossing, but now that it has signals, I don’t know if it still would classify as that or not, I’ll try to find out.

@@railfannernb2024 Let me know what you find out. I was hoping for a nice horn show at the crossing.

@ Still classified as a private crossing, no different to how the dump crossing at Lutesville East is. Crews choice on what they want to do there, put the bell on, blow the horn or just do nothing.
