Love this! I worked as a tech and now I’m taking prereqs because I want to go to nursing school. As a tech I worked with great nurses and not so great nurses. It’s refreshing to hear from someone who gets it & doesn’t look down on their techs. My parents always taught me to greet everyone at work from the janitor to the executives because everyone’s job is important. So thank you for making this video!

am a nurse who was a cna for years before.I ve had cnas order me around and do skills outside of their scope of knowledge which had the potential to endanger patients such as giving medical advice or not reporting immediately abnormal findings that they gathered. As a cna I was terrified not to make reports of abnormals I gathered because I cared about the patient outcome. How do you communicate to a belligerent cna who consistently goes outside of their scope of practice?

As a PCT in Nursing School, Thanks so much for posting this video. PCTs/CNAs are severely over worked and underpaid! I feel all RNs should work as a CNA for at least 6 months before they become a nurse, just to learn and understand how vital of a role they play in the patient’s over all care.

I’m a PA and till this day, I still remember the days when I was a PCT. I trust my pct’s more than my nurses. I defend my PCT’s more than my nurses because these people always have my back with all my patients no matter what. I love my pct’s, I can’t do my job without them, they’re my eyes and ears, so I constantly have to remind them how valuable and important they are to me.

@tania873186 жыл бұрын
Both of my parents started off as CNA’s. Now they are RN’s. The way they were treated was so poorly, they’d get underpaid (sometimes less than a McDonald’s employee), the work was difficult, carrying people (by themselves at times) that weigh a lot, dealing with rude patients, getting spit on and name calling. I admired my parents and of course I still do. Without CNA’s hospitals, clinics, elderly homes wouldn’t be running. It’s something that has to change.
@CariBaez6 жыл бұрын
Tania Paz why people tend to always think McDonald is bad? Come on.. people don’t have good morals.. everyone has to work and everyone should be appreciated.

Cary there is nothing wrong with Working at McDonald’s but someone working in healthcare who’s getting paid less than someone working at a fast food place is not right. CNA work is very physically demanding. I always remember where I came from and work right along side them..

Thank you so much for sharing this. I've been a CNA for over 2 years, and I work on a ICU step down unit, I've some bad experiences with some RNs who will sit at their stations almost the entire shift except to pass meds and tend to IVs. Being a guy, it can be easy to be exploited because sometimes your the only Male, and they lean on you for physical tasks. Thankfully, most of the of the Nurses are not like that, but I try to maintain a good repore with the staff, but all the issues you meantioned do happen all the time and I see why so many CNAs get burned out or have resentment towards people in higher scopes of practice.
@monicabella95075 жыл бұрын
It may appear to some that nurses are just sitting around at the station doing nothing other than pass meds, but trust me I bet they have so much charting to do. also calling MDs for updates or new order that eat up their time. Nurses get burnt out too, doing their job as a nurse, daily physical assessment, inserting IVs, medpass, charting, calling MDs for a change in condition and on top of that helping CNAs reposition or change the patient. So don’t assume that Nurses are not busy just bec they’re sitting in the station. Unless they’re just really chatting doing nothing, then Better talk to your nurses. ✌🏼

@@monicabella9507 that's true but I've also had nurses hunt me down to change a patient while they play jewel games on their phone or chat and order food.. the way I see it is we are a team and it is for the patient's best when we work together.

I love love love this video! After starting my clinical rotations, I've come to learn how much CNAs actually do and how underappreciated they are! My first two days, we shadowed the CNAs and learned their scope of practice so we can step in and help both as a student nurse and a future nurse, and I think it's an amazing skill set to learn so you can all work together to get the common goals done. The CNAs at my clinical site are A-MAZ-ING!! They put so much care and love into their parents it's crazy, and their positive energy just radiates, even onto us students! They definitely make my day better and I really really wish they were appreciated more and paid more! They're so worth it, and it's nice to finally see it in practice!

The amount of time I hear a patient telling the cna that they couldn't do their job while the cna is cleaning up their code brown and the family member just sits there consumed by their phones. I step in alot of times and inform the patient that it's a honest job and if their not helping them who will. Some agree and others are just negative

So, I know that what I do is appreciated by a lot of nurses. Just the other day a nurse sat down with me and said, "You are really great at your job, I really appreciate all you do." It's great hearing that from nurses. I do get along with other nurses as well and we always have a great team.

I’ve been treated like if I come to the nurse with a concern about a resident I must be wrong and I need to just go about my job of wiping butts and feeding people. However, some nurses I work with actually listen to me and care. I think part of it has to do with the fact that I’m in nursing school now and I’m catching things that need to be addressed so maybe they think my concerns are valid. Regardless, my day goes a lot better when the charge nurse respects me as a part of the team

I swear yall be doing the most and be so extra. Cut us some slack sometimes. Where I work at, no nurse helps. Except only one. All the nurses do is sit on their butt, and complain about this patient or this happening in their life. I'm wondering why, when they have no physical work to do. Really gets annoying and very frustrating. US CNA's don't get the respect we deserve. I'm glad u did this video. U SAID NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH!

Ursula Scott It may appear to some that nurses are just sitting around at the station doing nothing other than pass meds, but trust me I bet they have so much on their plate. also calling MDs for updates or new order that eat up their time and hella charting is time consuming. Nurses get overwhelmed too and is underpaid for the work that they do. doing their job as a nurse, daily physical assessment, inserting IVs, medpass, charting, calling MDs for a change in condition, calling a code or rapid response and an additional paperwork and on top of that, helping patients by giving them water, taking them to the rest room, repositioning or changing the patient. But sometimes Nurses just don’t have time even if they only have 5-6 patients. So don’t assume that Nurses are not busy just bec they’re sitting around. Unless they’re just really chatting the whole time doing nothing, then better talk to your nurses. ✌🏼

We have one PCT who is really lazy. During a rapid response, I asked her to do an EKG and she said "I have back" meaning she didn't work that end of the unit where the rapid response is. The next day, I had 5 patients and they all needed antibiotics and blood. One of them who literally takes 20 minutes to go to the bathroom and had to have someone stay with her. The same PCT said "who's up front that could do it" when I asked. Well, the front PCT was sitting in back with her. That PCT got up immediately because he's not lazy. The PCTs are in a union. When the same PCT slept through a flipping code, we were asked "how do you know she was sleeping? Did you call her name? Did you tap her shoulder? Was she snoring?" ...All things to back the offender at all costs. I'm at my wit's end with this one. Management can't do anything because of the union.

This video should be shown at every Nursing school/program I'm America!! A lot of nurses just dont give a damm for cna's and yes alot of them do think they are better and speak to cnas as if they are stupid. CNAs are not stupid, anyone with a brain can be a Nurse. It's just that some people could get their nusrsing school done and some dont. CNAs are just as smart. They just dont have the title of an RN. In fact some cna's know more than the nurse. Doctors and nurses dont always save lives. CNAs do too. The CNA's are the ones that know the patient/resident best.

I’ve had 12 patients all to myself one night and half of them were total cares and one nurse was so rude to me and none of the others ever helped me. I love my job but geez there are so many lazy nurses I’m just tired of hearing “oh it’s okay the cna can do it!”

CNAs are unfortunately underpaid and underappreciated.

I have a bit of a different problem I do all of this that you mentioned but my nursing assistants complain because I don't socialize with them when I am working. I struggle with this because I am more of an introvert and when I am busy I have a hard time stopping what I am doing to leisurely talk to them. Is this critical to my relationship with my nursing assistants? Do you think I should try to cut time out of my day to socialize with them? I would talk to them if we took lunch breaks at the same time though

Can you advise me on how to go with my gut when answering questions?

When I was HCA often nurses didn't appreciate us. Now I'm going to be a nurse and I know I'm going to treat HCAs as my peers.

Yes, I agree but some CNAs downright don't wanna do the job even if you are ready to help. They'd rather try to boss you around actually.

What about the nurse who thinks she knows it all but, doesn't participate in patient care but, still get a paycheck. The one who conveniently goes for lunch when the work is about to start.

The CNAs where I'm at are never in the rooms, argue about any task that's delegated to them, and they all sit with each other braiding each others' hair. When I've raised concerns, I'm told by administration that they have too many patients and don't get paid enough. True story ...

Respect the PCT’s. They do the hardest physical work you don’t want to.

As well as having a good working relationship with your helpers It doesn't hurt to have one with the patient/client. Treat them as human first. Just like you would with coworker. I have worked with doctors who remember every person's name even if you are just an assistant. Some people have compassion and treat the whole team equally. Even the person cleaning the bed. Especially the people who clean the bed. They are as an integral part of the team as anyone. Beds don't make themselves. Patients don't walk themselves. They don't feed themselves. They can be difficult. Confused. They can snap. I've had some incredibly rude patients. Vulgar. I've had some horrible verbally abusive human beings as patients. 3% dispicable patients who had no idea how to even be polite. verbally abusive. insulting. mean and horrible. I used to cater to these types. Now, I won't. I won't tolerate mental manipulation by patients. One minute they are yelling obscenities and the next playing the victim role. I seem to have a target on my head that says, i need a rotten manipulative patient today.
