CNA Skills # 12 : Give the Resident Perineal Care (Female Resident)

1. Perform "opening procedure" (includes hand hygiene).
2. Apply gloves. (OK to remove gloves, sanitize hands, and re-glove as needed).
3. Assist resident to position legs (knees bent and legs apart). Resident will already be supine.
4. Place a linen protector under resident's buttocks.
5. Keep resident warm and completely draped with a bath blanket.
6. Only uncover perineal area/buttocks area to ensure warmth, dignity, and privacy.
7. Wash (using soap/peri-wash), rinse, and pat dry rectal area from front to back while resident is in side-lying position.
9. Use a different part of the washcloth/mitt for each wipe/stroke.
10. Remove gloves, wash, re-glove to assist resident into position of choice.
11. Cover resident with sheet (bed linens) and remove bath blanket.
12. Wear gloves to clean and store equipment. Dispose of linens and trash appropriately.
13. Remove gloves and wash hands.
14. Perform "closing procedure" (includes hand hygiene).

I was a C.N.A. and we had 18- 20 people in the Nursing Home, we did ALOT back then, we lifted residents by ourselves and century tubs we used the lift and to weigh the residents we used the lifts also, oh yes that was hard work especially when we were short handed, I started C.N.A. work 1984, I really enjoyed working with the Elderly, I loved them and vice a versa, some were harder to work with because of their Alzheimer's, I worked on the total care wing, well now I'm retired and just doing what I like to do ! May God watch over the Elderly and keep them safe ! ❤️

I remember those days too. We had no less than 26 pt. for 1 CNA. I loved it as well. As a "forever" Grandma's girl I always thought of how I'd want her to be treated. I'd spend my meal breaks in their rooms chit chatting. I never knew what stories were true, it didn't matter. They loved having someone hear them. I'd even go in on my days off and bring my daughter. A few patients would let her crawl in bed and nap with them, as she'd gently pet their soft skin and hair. I'm retired and now my daughter is one of the best RN's I know.

This woman looks like a CNA that gave me the best in-bed bath I have ever had. Washed my hair and all of me without getting out of the bed and didn't even spill one drop on the floor. Braided my hair after that. I will never forget her! She was an angel.

When I was a CNA we did it to real ppl. I had a total patient. Private duty. She was the happiest person. She passed after eight years of caring for her. Even then I bathed her.

In Cyprus I have learnt that they put around 10 baby wipes in the water using one at a time and disposing it. They never use wash cloths.

Eu aprendi na enfermagem que todo o manuseio com o paciente acamado devemos usar luvas. Só tirar quando terninar o procedimento. E ainda trocar no leito todos os lençóis e a fronha. Esticar e prender bem, para evitar assaduras, e escaras no paciente acamado. E secar bem todas às partes do corpo. E depois aquecer se estiver frio. 👏😊💛

@@roseanedias4974 Obrigada, Roseane, aprendi que: Pode usar água, mas, em pequenas quantidades. E também não podemos expor o paciente. Devemos falar com o paciente e explicar que vamos ajudar na higiene pessoal, mesmo que ele não esteja entendendo, o que vamos fazer por ele. E deixá-lo bem tranqüilo. Se tiver frio o tempo, a água deve ser morna e não fria. Lembrando que: se trata de um ser humano, poderia ser alguém da nossa família.

That's great but I do work in the laundry for a hospital and I just hope and wish they would throw diapers and needles and all the bio hazard in the garbage instead of wrapping it up and sending it all to the laundry I don't think half the people would believe that they put the waste in the laundry instead of garbage it's really a nasty shocking lazy thing they do I hope the patient gets better care then what we see 🥺🤯😭🤬

Todo procedimento iniciado errado. Esta senhora não higienizou as mãos, tocou nas lixeiras e em seguida nos panos que tocaram no paciente. Só colocou luvas quando foi limpar o coco/xixi do paciente. Procedimento para não ser imitado. O Hospital deveria ter câmeras e orientar está senhora que não acho nada profissional.
