The Senate confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett concluded Thursday. Here are some of Judge Barrett's most attention grabbing answers from the proceedings. For access to live and exclusive video from CNBC subscribe to CNBC PRO: cnb.cx/2NGeIvi
The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday scheduled an Oct. 22 vote on whether to approve Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court in a rowdy hearing in which Democrats made procedural objections and said the rush to confirm the nominee was unprecedented.
As the hearing unfolded in Washington, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly said in Kentucky that the Senate had the votes to confirm Barrett to the high court, essentially assuring that the efforts by Democrats to delay her confirmation will be unsuccessful.
McConnell, who was in his home state to cast his ballot, said he expects to bring Barrett’s nomination to the Senate floor on Oct. 23, Bloomberg News reported. That time frame would allow her to be seated ahead of the Nov. 3 election between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee.
There was little doubt that Republicans, who hold 53 seats in the Senate, would have the necessary votes, though Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine have objected. Trump has repeatedly pressed for Barrett to be seated in time to resolve any election disputes that arise.
The developments came after Barrett faced two days of intense but civil marathon questioning by senators on the Judiciary Committee on Tuesday and Wednesday. Barrett is expected to be confirmed by the committee by a party line vote, with all 12 Republicans in her favor and 10 Democrats opposed.
Democratic senators tried in vain to derail Thursday’s committee hearing. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., objected to the GOP effort to schedule the vote by noting that he was the only Democrat in the room, and that the rules required at least two members of the minority party to be present.
Committee Chairman Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., pushed on anyway.
“If we create this problem for you in the future, you are going to do what I am going to do, which is move forward with the business of the committee,” Graham told him.
Some Democrats, who had been waiting outside the hearing room, entered and objected to Graham’s move.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said the process was a “rush” and a “sham” and motioned to adjourn the hearing, prompting a round of speeches by members of the committee.

@@jonathancummings6400 I’m simply boiling down what the Dems did here (You probably realize that.) Very VERY immature and stupid way of conducting ones self. “Leading the witness/Leading Question” as they call it in legal terms. Cannot believe Kamala who CLEARLY read word for word off of a script (which she either wrote herself or had someone else give it to her to say.) I mean she didn’t even take the time to memorize it to try to look somewhat genuine. 😂 It wasn’t much at all. Either way, Kamala was an absolute MORON for saying it to a woman who clearly knows the law like the back of her hand. She didn’t even deliver it well either! You could hear the tone in her voice clearly jumping ahead of herself to the question which she was attempting to “lead” her to. Cannot believe that’s all they could come up with 😂. Then again am I really surprised? No. They’ve shot themselves in the feet one too many thousand times. I’m calling a landslide victory.

Sid H She explained why she couldn’t answer the questions she wasn’t allowed to answer. Plain and simple. A justice cannot be nominated because they gave a forecast of their decisions - that’s incredibly corrupt to do so and there are specific laws to prevent the justice from giving a forecast or a promise of a set outcome. Sadly, the senators only seemed particularly interested in asking those kinds of questions as opposed to asking about her prior decisions and the reasoning behind them or her judicial philosophy. Basically, rather than respect the law as the philosophy it is, the senators attempted to defame law and drag it into party politics, hence why ACB was unable to answer many questions.

“Bias” ...when you are probably used to watching the Fox Propaganda channel. Gtfo. People remarking how smart and qualified Judge Barrett must be not be too bright themselves. She said nothing about anything to indicate what kind of a judge she would be, so there’s no way you could agree or disagree with her views or her qualifications. But as noted by others on this thread, *This standard practice for a nominee* so I’m no criticizing her for it at all. I’m laughing at the know-nothings in the general comment sections of these videos who say the senators are asking dumb questions and she’s making them all look stupid. Most people have no clue what they’re watching and it’s hilarious. I’ve seen a ton of these confirmation hearings. The senators know she’s not going to answer their questions in any direct sort of way; instead they’re putting statements in the record and also getting her responses recorded as a baseline. They know she’ll be confirmed. This is a game being played and 90% or more of the viewers don’t understand what’s actually going on. Ever watch a long, long legal case unfold over months or even years? IRL not on TV. Then you’d know nothing interesting happens for a long time, it’s mostly procedural. But little things happen. Attorneys are subtly getting a feel for the defendant, plaintiff, judge, the other attorney(s), jury if applicable, the case... and so on. It doesn’t happen in the space of a KZbin video. [As for NBC - not MSNBC - it’s one of the most reliable and least biased news sources out there: www.adfontesmedia.com/?v=402f03a963ba ]. Unbiased doesn’t mean splitting the difference, though. If there’s a turd on the sidewalk, a good news source should report the turd and not speculate too much about how it got there or why. But if half the people watching believe that turds are actually magic rocks, they shouldn’t give those people equal time and refer to it as a magic rock as well as a turd, because those people are *wrong.* News is meant to report facts. Editorials or opinion pieces should be clearly labeled as such and represents one person’s subject views. American media tends to editorialize WAY too much on both ends of the political spectrum in order to ingratiate itself to its target audience. Facts are often reported wrapped in a big dose of opinion. On the Right, facts are often misreported deliberately or “news” that doesn’t even pass the sniff test for most tabloids is presented as though it is verified fact, but only if it serves the conservative agenda. If it doesn’t, it could be an event witnessed by thousands of people and proven beyond a reasonable doubt by multiple credible sources, and the “News” source will bury it below some unimportant stories or else they will spin the hell out of it and make it seem to mean the opposite of what it actually does, and their audience won’t question the completely bogus take because they’re gullible morons who only get their news from that one source and are allergic to fact-checking anything.

I consider myself a democrat, but I am extremely impressed with Judge Amy Coney Barrett. She sounds like one of the most intelligent/well spoken individuals I have ever heard speak at a senate hearing. She seems extremely wise, and with the supreme court being a lifetime role, I expect her to make multiple morally correct decision moving forward. She seems like the great bi-partisan judge.

"You've made your point that it's a debatable point." -- No, she made her point that it's a topic of major contemporary controversy among public opinion, giving an opinion on which, outside of a case, would be inconsistent with impartial procedure.

You know what amazes me? All comments here, from people who actually watched her and listened to her, are not bad comments. I mean, people who actually took their time and listened to what she has to say. All the hate comes from the very fact that she was nominated by Donald Trump. I am sure if more people heard her they would definitely change their mind God bless her heart

How is the "peaceful transfer of power " an issue that a judge should not comment on when the constitution implies that this process should happen. The constitution mandates that the term of president is 4 years unless reelected. She didn't want to answer that question because like most of us, we heard Trump imply he wasn't leaving office.
