As the only female operator in the shop, i feel as if i have to prove myself and be extra cautious of a crash. Videos like these have given me the confidence to work in a machine shop full of men. Thank you so much!

During the long section of the actual machining, I would love to hear you voice-over and explain the individual actions and steps. Please give more background information on machining strategies, why you picked it, with which parameters and why, how they work and why they are special and how to "see" the special behavior (e.g., in 2D clearing that the cutter has constant engagement and constant feed, therefore the larger the circle the lower the rotations around, ...).

Great video. I would LOVE to see a series related to CNC machining from you. Maybe even a series on Fusion 360 too. Also, do you mind doing a video on first CNC machine suggestions. I was looking at Tormach since they have the best pricing and according to big names in CNC are pretty decent machines. I have a shop at home, so I have room. I'd really like to get my foot in the door and get to practicing, possible move into a small side business and teach my kids so they have another useful skill to bring to market some day. Thanks for the time you put into the videos!

Could you make a video of how you machine the back side of the part? I am curious how you do that accurately so the part thickness is correct.

Does learning a particular controller like siemens help you in the long run. When you upgrade to larger more capable machines?

Jay, if you could narrow doing your own CNC machining down to one primary factor as opposed to sending it out what would it be?
@Skooteh

it's easier to qc your own parts, it's easier to make changes, if you're doing prototyping your turnaround is significantly shorter, getting quotes is a PITA for small volume stuff, office logistics has a time cost in addition to actually buying parts, etc. There are a lot of reasons so you'll probably just get it simplified down to a statement like "flexibility" because anything actually specific would be disingenuous.

Thank you. I see the top part of some exotic designs and wonder how in the world they are going to hold it when it's flipped over. I have the same problem with manual machining and of course have to plan from the beginning how everything will be held. The last operation is the first one I have to plan for.

@@jeffreylewis145 no question about it...the process needs to be thoroughly planned from start to finish.

For such a part you don't need a CAM program, but then again.. i'm from a different era.. we only used CAM if a part was REALLY complex.. all the other parts were just programmed at the machine..

Add a male to female usb short extender wire to all your machines and hot glue them to the machine. If the usb port develops any problems it is a nightmare to fix, this is a cheap long term fix.
