Once it is installed it should boot up after a bit into CNCJS. Once in CNCJS you will want to go to the Connection area on the left hand side, choose the port in the drop down and then click Open. If all connects the Console are should change and show you all your $# settings. This is where you can manually change your feed rate. The next steps can be in any order. Normally I first home my machine, and you do that in the Axes panel located in the top right of the program. Once you get your bit to where you want it, in the work position field press the third button (It is the one that looks like the symbol you see on online maps). Do that for all three axes. To import your file go to the Upload G-Code and find and select the file you want to carve/engrave. Once that has imported you can press the play button to start your carve. I hope this helps and this is just the bare bones of getting going with CNCJS.

Evening Phil, thank you! So one could write a script to auto install a lot of this. I have not done so personally and find people are reluctant to take a script and use it, as they do not know exactly what the script writer has it doing. Personally I switched over to gsender for pi. Now gsender can have its own issues as well, but it is a fork of CNCJS. I normally keep my version of gsender a couple versions back from the current release for stability.

I have talked to others who have had similar issues, but with gsender not scaling to the screen size on smaller displays under 12" & using pi3. I would first try plugging it in to a regular monitor and seeing if it still does not load. That will see if it's a screen issue. If that doesn't work, I would then try having it boot with out the gui. So sudo raspi-config and change boot option to CLI. Last I would try reinstalling the raspberrypi os, but this time install the legacy OS. Let me know how it goes.

So I dropped my touch screen and it's dead so I went with a little larger none touch screen and it was way cheaper. I now use gsender which is a fork by sienci labs of cncjs. I am staying 1 version behind on gsender as the kinks get worked out on the new releases. Right now I'm using gsender 1.0.6 the issue with both in my opinion is on large gcode files is that they can lag or become unresponive. So for a 6 hour engrave i would break it up into approx 6 gcode files. Besides that both get the job done, in my personal opinion gsender has the better gui and they have worked to make changing your grbl settings easier.

I believe you are referring to the part where you do the install CNCJS and you have to expand the screen manually before you press ok. Had this happen to someone else as well. You just need to close out that terminal, open a new one. Type in the URL, the type in the bash line. Then adjust the window for the terminal to full screen.
