CNJ 113 Bouncing & Steaming on Old Anthracite Rails

An absolutely beautiful video! And not just of 113 and her train, but the locomotive and the train in the context of their surroundings. Wonderfully moody and atmospheric, like a time machine! Looking at the train passing though the woods I couldn't help but be reminded of some lines from a Robert Frost poem, they could even spoken by 113 herself: "These woods are lovey, dark, and deep. But I have promises to keep! And miles to go before I sleep. And miles to go before I sleep." The bouncing made me a bit uneasy, like maybe 113's being pushed a LITTLE too fast, but considering all the sweat, love, and certainly blood they put into restoring her I'm sure the guys running her know what they're doing. One thing the wheel-slips told me, 113's doing all the work! The tail-end diesel's just there to make the return runs easier!

You are correct about the diesel not assisting, it's on there in order to back the train south since there is no wye track to turn the train around, the steam engine always faces north for these trips. Probably experienced some slip on the downed leaves. Anyway, thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed!

It's only one of two surviving CNJ steam engines, the other one, a 4-4-2 Camelback, is in the B&O Museum. But THIS one runs! Ther rest of the Jersey Central's steam engines all went to the scrapper. So enjoy this one!

CNJ 592 really should be restored to operation. That is, if it's even legal for a camelback locomotive to operate anymore. I would say we should try to build a camelback 4-6-0, but it's has been illegal since the 1930's. That being said however, we need more CNJ steam.
