Carey - what a great interview! In 1975, it was Gordon's preaching that the Lord used to sew the last seed in my journey of faith. I grew tremendously as a new believer under his teaching. He baptized me, counseled me through some difficult times and then married my wife and me nearly 37 years ago. I am in Christ who I am in large part due to the way the Lord used Pastor Mac (as we called him in those days) and the ministry that grew in those heady days of the 1970s at Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA. While touching base with him from time to time via email, it was great to just sit and listen to him share these thoughts, insights and perspectives in a conversational way. It took me back! Thanks again for a great interview!

Hi Grace....your story is my story as well. Early 1980's...30 years a catholic, and a friend ( later wife) invited me to Grace Chapel. To sit in the sanctuary of GC and hear him preach Christ to me ( among 1200 or so others) was unlike anything I had ever heard before. Billy Graham, summer of 1982...in Boston...God ordained, grace...Change of life ..180 degrees...First experience...as I listen to Pastor Mac speak now...close my eyes...I'm taken back to the GC sanctuary so many years ago...that same, soothing, spiritual voice of God....Blessed by the Lord! And a BIG kudo goes to his wife, Gail! Thanks.🙏

HUMILITY… I never had Grandparents, if I could choose one it would be Gordon. So much wisdom and humility in a living human . I’m about to turn 70, and I’m in tears by his love for Jesus, it’s so appreciated. There is a pastor who cares for his flock, old and young. Where there is love there is Jesus. Thank You for this interview. He is definitely a Pastor’s pastor. So grateful for this. I am So humbled, and so peaceful right now. I will not look for more teachings by him. What a blessing.❤️🌹✝️🌍

Gordon’s comments about aging touch my heart. It is almost like aging and purpose in aging is uncharted territory in a person’s life and in many churches. The comments about questions helped me understand this I am not the only one who wonders why questions are few and far between. This interview was absolutely inspiring. Thank you!

Carey, you do such an incredible job in interviewing people and allowing them to share the depth of what God has given them - kudos to you! Also, we are in deep need of wise, spiritual sages in our day and Gordon is one of them. Wisdom comes by way of reflection and Gordon has reflected (and continues to do so) deeply upon his relationship with God, life, ministry, etc., and its impact on himself and others. Great interview with a boatload of wisdom. Thanks Carey and Gordon! FYI, I still use "Ordering Your Private World" in my leadership development process.

I'm only half way through this interview and I think I've taken more notes already than most other interviews I've heard...and I listen to Carey regularly! Thanks to both of you for talking, blessing, encouraging, and teaching all of us! This is a great interview among soooooo many great interviews! Keep up the good work.

Gordon MacDonald's analogy of a high success rate of church hires brings a stark contrast to the failing of the current church: mentorship. How many pastors mentor someone who will take over their position--and in the final years of their ministry--and usually someone from outside their existing church? How many churches today are looking for a "rising star", but unwilling (unable?) to produce home-grown leadership? This whole interview is just such a treasure, Carey. Thank you!

I appreciate his trying not to be critical or give advice, unless asked. I think this is a major issue today. We are very quick to give others a piece of our mind.

Bring in new heroes is always good, sometimes we has God creation he will use us to show his glory in the kingdom, we are very blessed to have a father that loves us with all his heart, he will be there threw are times of need, but just need to open up our hearts and let him in so he could make his home in us

I knew the man. He was a mentor to me. The part that affected me the most in this interview is the end. when he talks about his grandchildren and his children leaving him alone. Now he's with just his wife. So sad. Seems to me that when a person spends his life traveling around the country helping other families. He's indirectly telling his children that he's okay that you'll be fine without them. he doesn't need them around him. And eventually they believe him. And as the years go by they move on with their own lives and they leave their parents home alone. So sad. So out of balance. We think that serving the lord is so important that we neglect our own children and our own grandchildren or uncles or aunts or cousins. We give up our family connections believing that we are serving God. So sad.

Some very good points on relationships. However I fear the continued decline of the church is due to a faster need for change. For years I went to smaller community church. It became so repetitive in program generated material that teaching from bible diminished. I got invited to mega church, never thinking I would fit in. !0 years later, I volunteer each week. I am more connected with members now than the smaller quite community church

5 conversions??? Sounds like he is using the word conversion for growing in grace or in knowledge. Not for being saved. Jesus said, "Ye must be born again." Not again, and again, and again....ect. And knowing comes with being born again. Wondering if Heaven is there? Surely we aren't saved with all knowledge at once, but there is that KNOWING He did it! Are we have not trusted. "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." 1 John 5:11-13. "You may KNOW ye have eternal life." When we're saved God's Spirit comes in and tells our spirit..."I did it!" For Romans 8:16 says..... "The Spirit Himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God..." That's why we never tell anyone they're saved, if they cannot tell us. Interesting talk. Thanks! Lord bless....✌️🙏

Lexington, Massachusetts and Grace Chapel was one of the strongest Evangelical Church in the Boston area. A Narrative Theological perspective tgat is post-foundatiinal has its weaknesses. This seems to be what he is advocating for here. Seems dangerously close to transcendatalism.
