CNN finds stranded Uyghur children in China

Amnesty International reports that China's policies towards ethnic Uyghur Muslims have split up thousands of families, as some children are prevented from leaving China's Xinjiang region to be with their parents living abroad. The US and other countries have labeled China's treatment of Uyghurs as genocide. Beijing strongly denies the accusations, insisting that its actions are justified to combat religious extremism and prevent terrorism. With permission from Uyghur parents desperate for answers, CNN's David Culver traveled to the heavily surveilled Xinjiang region in search of their children left behind.

@@johnsmith-ir1ne Lol, typical moronic Westerners like you never get the point because you know nothing about China and never bother to know anything about China, the point is Uyghurs have never ever been subjected to the same birth control measures as the Han in China because as a minority ethnic group, they receive preferential treatment. And because of this their population has grown 20% over the past 10 years, but only 5% for the Han in the region, it exposes the false ''genocide'' narrative that the Han was ''erasing'' their population.

So, you walk in to a Uyghur house easily with a welcome smile on her face, with a Chinese translator and cameras, put her on a interview and get away with it after the girl realizes you are more than her father’s classmates who claim delivered message from a father abandoned her many years ago and remarried in Australia. Dude, if there is really a genocide going on as state in your narrative, a foreigner with a camera is the least you wanted in you house. So you lie to a girl who be abandoned by her father to get your story. Well done, journalism is not dead after all. Comments deleted mark one

If you had watched the video or read the story anywhere besides the narrative fabricated by the CCP-run Global Times you'd see the father has no way of getting back his children. And he can't return to China as he'd be thrown in one of the camps without a hope of being with his children. The PRC is committing genocide by all definitions of the word. The PRC is part of the UN and have sworn an agreement to the UN definition: (a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. The world has first-hand account from thousands of Uyghurs and seen statistics showing evidence of all all these points. (a) Uyghurs in the camps have been denied their medication and allowed to die. When directly confronted about deaths in the camp Beijing will say they've died another way such as from the coronavirus (even though China is reporting less than 30 COVID-19-related deaths in the whole country each month). (b) Men and women given injections against their will, raped, beaten and electrically shocked for praying or breaking other arbitrary rules, forced to stay in prison cells with camera watching them 24/7 even as they go to the bathroom (c) Their culture is being destroyed. The young are not allowed to go to mosques. They are not allow to greet in the name of Allah. Large-scale Han migration into the region to turn Uyghurs into a minority in their own land. Uyghurs must be on guard at all hours of the night in case of surprise police visits. Imagine the mental stress knowing someone may show up at any moment in the night to take you or a family member away. (d) Women are sterilized through chemical and surgical means (having their uteruses removed). Despite Beijing saying otherwise, Uyghur births are DECREASING not INCREASING in the region. (e) When the parents are imprisoned, where do the children go? They are left to be cared for by grandparents or Hans that have been assigned to live with the family. Grandparents cannot always take on the burden to completely care for the children themselves, or they are old and will not live long enough to raise the children. Who is left to raise them? What good can come about by separating the children from their parents as you see in the very video this discussion is taking place on?

To the reporters, going to Xin Zhiang to work is a lot more enjoyable than going to the U.S. border to report on the migrant kids. There are lots of nice hotels and great restaurants in Xin Zhiang. There is no amentity or five-star hotel at the U.S. border but dust and dirt. I'm not surprised that they would rather fly to Xin Jang to track down the allegedly genocided kids than going to the U.S. border.

Meanwhile in the US, 19 living Black Panther Party members are still suffering in prison after 48 years. They fought for black power in 1971, and were sentenced to life imprisonment after a highly controversial trial. Over 10 of them have died in prison. In 1975, native American civil rights activist Leonard Peltier fired back at two FBI agents who intruded into his private lands. He is now in prison for two life sentences. Requests made by Nelson Mandela and many American Indian Movement groups for freeing Leonard Peltier were ignored by the US government.

If you open your mouth in China, not even being the Chinese equivalent of Amazon CEO billionaire can keep you safe. Also, did you know that all the history books in school teach about America's racism. Every person born and raised in America knows about Jim Crow, slavery, indigenous people, EVERYTHING. CNN, it would make the interview a lot more trustworthy if you just add subtitles rather than using your own voice over in English. Which covered the original voice from the interviewees. You know in someway this is kinda like censoring what they said, since there is no way for us to know if you translated their words correctly. It would make the contents a lot more trustworthy and easy to fact check. I hate to say this, but there will be cars behind you when you in a road with heavy traffic. If you want to prove those are the cars from the Chinese government, why not just show us the route which they followed you. Also, not CENSORING the cars' front plates would also help, since we can use such information to track down the vehicles' owners. Same goes to the faces of individuals you censored, just show us their face. Hey, if those people are working for the Chinese government and did participate in a genocide, it won't hurt let us know who they are isn't it? Another thing I want to point out is regarding to the schools that are surrounded by fences and have security at the front door. This is basically standard to all Chinese schools... It's not something special to Xinjiang... Do you even know Chinese elementary schools, middle schools and high schools basically all have this kind of setup? The purpose of this 'tight security' is to prevent unknown individuals going into the campus and hurt students, as well as preventing students sneaking out of the campus, going to internet cafes and play video games whole day. The school shown in the video is an elementary school. The words on top of the building reads "伽师第二小学". "伽师" is likely the name of either a city or a district, reads 'Jiashi'. "第二小学" translate to 'Number 2 Elementary School'. Like I said, I don't know how CNN made such connection, but elementary schools like this isn't anything special in China, it's basically a standard setup which you can also find in other cities and provinces. Another thing is regarding to the scene CNN tries to meet the kids. I can clearly hear in the background which someone speaking in Chinese repeatedly saying "这不是采访", which translate to "this isn't an interview". Also, a kindly reminder, places like school and orphanage usually won't allow strangers inside, in most of the cases, you need to proof yourself been the kid's parent or at least show your identity and reason. You can't just walk inside in a random day by giving the reason that you are a journalist. Since how can these people know you are indeed an journalist not some random criminals that might cause danger to the kids? There shouldn't be any surprise that there will be higher ups from the facility coming out checking on you. Another thing I want to point out is the report will be a lot more convincing if CNN can give us the full clip regards to how they interact with the government officials. Rather than using some edited clips and English voice over. Regarding to the paper held by the child, I can confirm the translation from CNN is correct. However, if I recall correctly, there was a report a couple years ago mentioned a similar situation. Which basically talked about a strategy used by Chinese police when the charged suspect ran to a different jurisdiction. What they do is basically contact the relatives of that suspect, and ask them to send messages to the suspect in order to convince the suspect to return to China and turn themselves in. Of course, this is only a speculation, it is possible that the reason behind the message is exactly the same as CNN interpreted. It would be really nice if we could have the entire interview, rather than some edited, voice overed clips which mixed with a lot of speculations from the media. One last thing is more of a question I have after finishing this video. It seems to me that CNN have no problem at all contacting or even finding those kids. So why the kids' parents are having difficulty contacting them in the first place? I mean the journalist seems is able to directly talk to the kids, or at least contacting them via an online video call isn't it? Why not let their parents call, and talk to their kids via an online call as well? Why only show their parents the recorded video? The journalist clearly has the ability to contact the parents and let them talk to the kids isn't it?

Now, Uyghurs have a three-children policy from what I know, the parents in the second story have six children, they break the rule, three times. So what's happening during the first two times? I grew up in Nanjing, I'm the single child(Hui) in my family under the one-child-policy. And I have a classmate (She's Han) whose family break the one-child-policy rule (bc she has a sister) thus her dad was marginalized in his company, finally lost the job. We of course can criticize if the childbearing policy proper or not in China since... uh I'm not sure when bc almost all ppl I know from my generation -- my classmates, my friends, my cousins, are one child in the family. But can we make the conclusion that there is a suppression targeting on Uyghurs specifically? when Uyghurs can have three kids and Han/Hui can have one in my generation.

@@EH-pe2sv Yes, I know and agree. When plane is taking off and landing, the windows should be open for staff to observe the situation outside the airplane. I mean I am not sure CNN is honest that the windows were close when the plane was landing or just in the middle the trip, just like they lied to the girl that they were her father's classmates and ask her whether she wanted to get together with her father, then took videos when the girl get moved and cried because she missed her father to blame Chinese government so called violation of human rights, it is obvious in the relevant video by CGTN. I think they just want to create a feeling in the video the Chinese government is doing something bad and wants to conceal. For instance, they wants so called free report in Xinjiang, so they ask for interviewing a serious criminal in the prison. If there is any secret for example, military information, I think it is also reasonable to prevent observation, though I do not think so, because military airports are not with the civil ones, and if so, the US satellites can also observe and take photos. Finished the whole video and sure it's touching like a movie, but I'll be hesitate to call it "real journalism" given at least a few obvious problems with the footage. I don't even want mention the dimmed color filter and shaky angles as people always see from the footage of BBC/CNN on China but not from any regular vlog(wait, did they actually take a footage of people's happy faces and said "this is not what you expected from China"? What are you expecting then? Pre-set prejudice much?) 1. As much as I can see CNN is trying to make it as inflammatory as possible, there is a lack of total pic in the clip. Who is this guy? What did he do? Any real cause of the situation beside the "baddy baddy china" narrative? Again, if you're trying to get a good story, it has to be a real story first. The "trapping" story concerns me as well: problems as other folks already pointed out, like why she can board the airplane with an expired passport? Is there any hard evidence beside people talking? Take advantage of viewer's sympathy is a smart trick, but you can only call yourself a "writer" if that's all you have to offer. 2. There is a total lack of the other side of the story as well. Geez, I can't even hear the boy's voice from the video call but only the same guy talking over and over with same narrative. I also didn't hear anything from the grandparents' perspective of the little girl or any other people's voice from the same neighborhood(their living condition looks very good to me tbh). Is it really that hard to get at least a tiny bit more board perspective? This clip looks dangerous to me since it reminds me of the political narrative that deep state politicians used before they invaded Iraq, same trick never goes old. www.nti.org/gsn/article/powell-blames-himself-iraqi-wmd-speech-un/ theintercept.com/2018/02/06/lie-after-lie-what-colin-powell-knew-about-iraq-fifteen-years-ago-and-what-he-told-the-un/ The only difference is that those same politicians are circumventing the UN all together nowadays but sadly people still falls for that.

to be fair, the couple who claim they were forced to have abortion....already had 5-6 kids....remember china had one chid policy for everyone in china. so when the rule apply to the entire population of china, and you were still able to have 5-6 kids.....doesn't that make you a rule breaker? how is that oppression? the one child policy is not just put on one specific group...it applied on the entire population...and most of the time, it was more relaxed towards the ethnic minorities. China has a very large population, so if you let everyone has as many kids as they want, then it will become a crisis for china and the world. do we not have enough people on earth??? some control is needed. every country has its rules and laws that its citizens need to follow, it is the same in USA and Canada and rest of the western countries. you cannot use the american or "western" law and ideology to measure/decided whether the other countries' doing is right or wrong. what about the oppression of the indigenous people in USA and Canada? forced assimilation of the indigenous people into the anglo-saxons ideology/culture? what about the oppression and discrimination of black population in USA? the mass incarceration of blacks in USA? what about the human rights violation by the Saudies?....USA turns a blind eye because it is an ally of USA and USA needs its oil and support in the region.....etc....are these not human rights violations? the population in xinjing has more than doubled over the years...so how is that genocide? if there is separatist group within xinjing that is trying to disturb the peace, shouldn't you try to deal with it? USA never asked the Iraq citizens before it invaded Iraq on the false claim of "weapon of mass destruction".....where is it? did they find it? have they made Iraq better? same goes for Afghanistan....which countries that USA meddled in or dismantled has come out "better"....educate me please. trying to destroy other country to maintain American supremacy is very sad and may work in the short time, but it will not last forever. unless America can set a good example itself internally first, fix all its current and historical issues....then its hard to convince others. Not saying that China doesn't have its problems and issues....but the bullying technique that USA is using in preventing the uprise of China is sad....if USA is as good as it thinks and says, then compete with china, don't try to suppress china. although I think the best way is to find ways to work together with the understanding that each culture is different.

And the CCP… Like you, the Wumao Just deny it and deflect it instead of actually taking any responsibility for anything.

Comparing the U.S.A detainment of Mexican immigrants to this situation is such a false comparison. 1. These are both terrible 2. The reason we know about the usa problem is because usa media is reporting about it. Meanwhile this situation is completely absent from reporting by its own country. 3. The numbers in the u.s.a are a fraction of a fraction of what is happening here.

Why the western countries is interested in Uygurs in China? According to Laurence Wilkson, a retired senior advisor to Collin Powell, the reason the US stations in Afghanistan has nothing to do with fighting Taliban or terrorism, it had everything to do with three strategic objectives: (1)into the position, that's close to the central Belt and Road initiative of China; (2) looking out for Pakistan nuclear stockpile; (3) 20 million Uygurs that can be used by CIA (20,000 if them living in Syria now), the best way to distablize China is to form a unrest and join with those Uygurs, and pushing the Han Chinese from the internal places rather than external.
