Regarding NATO, President Trump didn’t lie - he exaggerated. However, there isn’t a lot of difference between Trump saying “almost 100%” versus the 71% you say that the United States contributes. Whether NATO is paying from a pot of money or allocating from individual defense budgets is neither here nor there. The bottom line is that the United States is “paying” “contributing” the bulk, that we're paying too much, and that President Trump is correct.

The US already has a strong defense spending (you also mentioned it) and military presence. It does not need to spend 71% for NATO. Others need to spend their fair 2% of GDP or there is no need for NATO. They should also make up for the payments they were supposed to make throughout these years. It's not the US ass in the line if there is no NATO. The US already takes care of itself. And it is not the US's responsibility to protect others with its own money. The US should use that money to help the homeless in its own street.
