America has always been messy and a bit divided. What has happened since is a reality check and the consequences of unregulated sectors of technology and media. The question is how to learn and get back to this while still having the technology available. America will have to change again, the question is how while not leaving anyone behind. There’s so much cynicism and bitterness towards the US and it’s nice to have this as a reminder that we’ve seen this before and we can overcome it.

I'm Mexican American, I woke up my kids to witness this historic moment. They were 12 and 13 at the time. I told them , they no longer had any excuse to not be all they could be. He may not have done everything he wanted to do, because of a republican senate, or what ever other reason, but he is still the most inspiring president we have ever had . At the time, my kids didn't understand why I would wake them up in a school night for this , but now they are voting age and they have actually thanked me for not letting them miss out on history. Obama will always be our president!!

Absolutely my friend, tell your children and your grandchildren when you have them how important it is to vote and what this means when you don't, here in the UK the BAME people here didn't go out to vote, and what they ended up with was a far-right member of Parliament, hence the reason as to why for us who are immigrants of children of immigrants need to go out and vote no matter what

I'm not a fan of obama or trump. I do however miss this sort of composure our former president would bring when he spoke. Undoubtedly this is one of the most historical speeches in my lifetime. He broke the American political paradigm. By striking at the core of the hearts of the vast majority of Americans, he ushered in the collapse of the Democrat and Republican parties. Our heart hasn't changed and what we're going through is the right and left figuring out how to reorient themselves after such a catastrophic shock. He awoke the populous, now different groups are trying to direct it as a revolution, regain control for the elites, or destroy the system outright. We've been here before. It looks chaotic and violent... that's how birth is. It's a beautiful but messy process.

The fact that Trump was elected after Obama though, that says something. I don't live in the US, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I imagine that still, even after electing a democrat, having to pay tens of thousands of dollars for healthcare each year and having to struggle each month to make ends meet, has something to do with it. If you guys fix that, I think the likelihood of another Trump is reduced significantly. That's requires a vision, and unfortunately, I don't feel like Biden brings that to the table. I get sad whenever I think of what the world would have looked like, had Bernie Sanders won in 2016 or 2020.

@@hockey1freak Son Andrew? Wut? Also, voting for the green party was just as pointless lol. Third parties simply aren't viable in the United States, with the exception of the very few places where ranked choice voting exists. We are a two party country, and while I hate and despise that, it's simply the reality. You have the choice of either the slightly center-left, centrist, or conservative Democrat - or you have the choice of the insanely far-right, fascist, Federalist Society Republican who doesn't even believe in something as simple as the idea of our constitution, or our democracy. That's unfortunately how our electoral politics are.

One of those 240,000 was my college sociology professor who INSISTED on giving us an exam the following morning, despite that we were all glued to the television screens the night before. She had to spend time in class the next morning pontificating on how great the previous evening in Grant Park was, before giving us a test that the vast majority of us didn't prepare for. No grades for the exam curved. I don't know that any of us received an "A" by the end of the semester. Ergo, no straight A's on my report card means no "honors level" student discount. Needless to say, she got a heartwarming "love note" from me the morning of November 9th, 2016. She wrote me a nasty message back. Best revenge ever.
