Rewatching every single video of Anthony Bourdain. I watched his shows ever since I was 8, and read his books when I started working. RIP. I miss him: being amazed at asian food, his Gonzo-esque way of journalism and writing, everything.

I just had this yesterday for the first time in a long while, like 2-3 years.. and in spite of the fact that i grew up with this thing and this have been one of my favorite things to eat for a long time and lots and lots of memories.. honestly the first thing that came to mind was this video.. the impact, not only as a chef but as a human being, (even despite the fact i never knew him personally lol) is monumental to me.. Anthony you are dearly missed..

It's not that he isn't worldy, he's just very picky with food no matter what country it's from. You should watch his food intervention segments where he talks about how he eats the same thing everyday months at a time. That's why Anthony has been doing so many food trials with him.

This is why I love Bourdain, Rest In Peace. He knows Cooper by now (CNN compatriots and all) and his lack of cuisine interest, gets him to agree on a bit like they showed; and makes it great TV and a genuine “I’ll show you something that will raise your eyebrows in disgust, yet when it when it’s done you’ll thank me” moment. That’s AB in a nutshell, and kudos to Cooper for going outside his comfort zone and enjoying the moment...and the food!!

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budae_jjigae actually the origin of this stew came from post korean war phase. at that time we, korean did not have sufficient ingredients. so people who lived near by US military base started to mix food garbages and leftovers from the base, and that was the beginning. budae means troops. stew mixed with kinds of ingredients, so people call this "budae stew" since not only its ingredients also its combination. nowadays, recipes are improved and use good quality ingredients. however still we call this same name, because kinda fun. and also easy to advertise. taste is quite good, I tried to recommend this to my foreign friends, and never failed.

Food like this is so good, so spicy (fear not!) and so interesting. People who are terrified of "spicy" should probably find a cafeteria or a nursing home for their meals. But Korean is so wonderful: fermented red pepper paste, sesame oil, garlic (!!!), and on and on. And, you can actually use RAMEN to advantage!! Just soften it in hot water and stir it in.
