MingforPM this kind of development is bloating the luxury residential market. People will buy these expensive apartments thinking they're investing on some sh*t,. In the end, most of the property will be owned but very few will actually live there. Very much like the notorious Chinese ghost towns.

Dear comment section, this guy has a point. If the project fails, Malaysia will be wasting more than a hundred billion of dollar which it cannot afford on a ghost city. On the other hand, if the project succeed, only rich mainland Chinese and taiwanese will be the buyer... The problem is that these people are not actually going to live there... They are buying it as an investment therefore inflating the price of the house there pushing Malaysian out of the market... It will be the same case that is happening to London where Londoner is being pushed out of their own cities in favour of the foreigners.... In my opinion, Malaysia should have never proceed with this project. The money should have been spent on infrastructure, education, and healthcare which the country barely provide because that is a catalyst that makes a country grow! Not some publicity stunt by the govt to win some vote.

The people (buyers) have to have the true intention for living there. That means buying restrictions for Chinese, the prices have to be kept in bail, and an infrastructure similar to Singapore is a must. Driving over to visit Singapore has to be easy and cheap. Plus there should be a superfast connection to Changi airport.

Just decent salaries are needed: $2000-$4000 for mainstream employees with minimal taxation. Many offshore software developers from cold, expensive countries would enjoy equatorial climate and proximity to Singapore. Current salaries and Malaysia my second home program make such relocation unaffordable.

Over the past years singapore has had its economy increased drastically to the point where malaysia couldnt keep up, sooo... malaysias gdp growth wasnt as high, currency dropped, and more imagrants were needed to fill in work spaces that malaysians themselves dont want to do, what malaysia is trying to do is to expand business, malaysians love business, with this project they are trying to increase entrepreneurship because with our country being bigger and more populated than singapore, we need more amounts of entrepreneurs so these things are just small steps that malaysia is making to become on par with singapore (economically speaking) again like the old days.

I had to be honest. I am a Malaysian from Johor. The amount of money spent on these developments could be used to improve schools (renovating or rebuilding etc as they are no new facilities the past decades) and spent on improving Malaysia as a whole not just in Iskandar. Locals can't afford these expensive housing! Malaysia is building a ghost town here.....(is just my opinion)

Singapore may be congested with many apartment blocks close to each other but on a closer look, the layout is cleverly done with many engineering considerations i.e. spacing between apartments, height restriction, traffic flow on roads. Plus the government provides excellent maintenance of public facilities i.e. roads, traffic lights, trees, shrubs, all the buried facilities ( gas, electricity, water, sewerage) buried under the roads. Singaporeans will not move from Singapore.

I spoke to a property agent and he said that water leakage in new apartments are common. That is shocking. 95% of Singapore are apartments and water leakage only occurs in old apartments and even then in a small percentage...not due to the piping but the cementing between the tiled floor and the piping. So, what the agent told me was shocking.

Malaysia is currently planning for 2030. Another 1000 km of highways and expressways are already being built. About 5 new train lines are being constructed, including two planned high speed train networks. At least 5 super high towers would be built in Malaysia by 2030, not including the PNB 118 (the world's second tallest building to be completed in 2021). Malaysia is always forward thinking. If its neighbors build cities by then, Malaysia would already have 3 to 4 times their developments. All these from 10 year strategic plans devised with the assistance of experts of industry and government, including foreign investors. There will be more than USD 100 billion of foreign investments in the country before 2030, as commited by these investors. Lets not forget that the manufacturing hub for global IT is in Malaysia now at its own Silicon island state. Malaysia is ahead of the curve. Expect a fully industrialized nations status quite soon.

Check any apartment for rent in all the towns or cities. You can pay for 18 years of rental before you reach the purchase price. Not to forget the fees, repairs and most certainly, the write-off of the apartment later. No second-hand market for apartments in Malaysia.

I have spent weeks looking at Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan, Desaru, Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat, Melaka, Ipoh, Penang, etc. Too many empty properties for rent. Any investor will be squatting on unrented properties for many years. Malaysia is over-built. Depend on Chinese investors....it is a dream. Depend on Singapore investors...they have got burnt badly already.

Not really true that Malaysian apartments are more spacious than Singapore. Most of them are small i.e. 60 sq m to 85 sq m with 3 bedrooms squeezed into a 85 sq m space. The really spacious ones above 200 sq are aimed at wealthy foreign buyers but the market is small at that price level. In Singapore, one can get a HDB flat that is around 85 sq m easily with all the comforts of facilities without having to pay any maintenance fees. In JB, they are all private condos and hence you need to pay the fees (maintenance, sinking fund, etc.) Renting in Malaysia is far better for any foreigner...without the hassle of upkeep.

im here in Iskandar, near the JB woodlands checkpoint. There are 600-800 units in this development. At night you only see about 15-20 apartments with lights on. The apartments are beautiful though. Much more space then SG! I think its just going to be one of those things that takes time to develop...

It will remain a semi-ghost town for many years. Malaysia is a big country and development in key States are competing with each other. Hence, Johor will not be that successful. Factories are all away from JB. Other than week-end shopping, what is there to attract Singaporeans to live there? Perhaps when the Mass Rapid Transit is operating in end-2026, JB town centre may be more popular but it is still a big IF.

Singapore population has already peaked. Economy is struggling to avoid a recession. Expats population has decreased due to high costs and also Government is issuing less visas except to the top calibre (numbering perhaps a few hundreds). Singaporeans can be assured of an apartment, assured that in times of recessions or economic slowdown, the government will allow them longer repayment periods, etc. Not when they invest in JB. No way, I will buy in JB. Rent, maybe.

Malaysia has only a few elephants left. So, White Elephants like these will help to increase the elephant population. Look at any of the numerous condos...and you see dozens to over 800 apartments avaialble for rent. Who is renting? From Singapore? Very few and those renting are just a few thousands. Malaysian? They all have cars and will drive outside to spacious landed properties at much cheaper cost....Malaysians do not like to live in crowded cities except in the Klang Valley (KL, Petaling Jaya) but that premier location has frequent water stoppage.

From my perspective its not that expensive only around RM800k for it location. At my place, a new house worth RM750K and where is it? Near a small town called Sungai Pelek. Have you ever heard of that place.

The reporter acted as if everything around him is hilarious and stupid, when he could have at least be polite and discuss the matters in a more formal way. It doesn't even fit the narrative they're trying to push. If you really want to push a narrative that says 'China is conquering everything', then at least discuss the facts in a serious way instead of trying to goof off like this and treat it like a freak show.
