The reason we over estimate potential adversaries is historical. Before WWII, we ludicrously underestimated the Japanese' capability to project power, as well as Nazi determination to conquer. Both Axis power's militaries were underestimated in size and capability. We paid dearly for that failure of logistical understanding. Better to overestimate and be prepared for the worst, than to be caught in newer, more horrifying Pearl Harbor.

Sure but doesn’t that mean ramping up aid to Ukraine who aren’t threatening to use nukes just a chance to defeat Russia on the battlefield. And they can. In 2 years the amount of territory Russia has taken is so trivial it cannot be seen by the naked eye on a graph. And the cost to them has been 700,000 casualties, a severely depleted Soviet weapons stock, Syria, their economy and the reputation of their army….to take a pitiful amount of territory. "Trump had a good year, man," Chris Rock said. "Trump survived an assassination attempt. Won the presidency again by winning the popular vote. Was just named Time 'Man of the Year.' You know?" "It could happen to a nicer guy." That may have been the worst of it, as Rock immediately ripped anti-Trump liberals for saying the president-elect's return to the White House would shatter norms and etiquette. "A lot of people are scared. Like, 'Oh, my God, he's going to be so undignified,'" he mocked. "When I say a lot of people, I'm talking about the nine New Yorkers that didn't vote for him, okay?" He then eviscerated Clinton. "Come on, man, this is not the most dignified job in the world," Rock said of the presidency. "We've had presidents show up to the inauguration with pregnant slaves, okay? And I'm just talking about Bill Clinton." 'SNL' Finally Jabs Hunter Biden As a Former Castmate Has Surprise Visit With the 'Church Lady' Rock continued with some jokes about the Menendez brothers getting out of prison just in time to get deported by the 47th President and teaming up with the world's "richest African-American," Elon Musk. "Trump is not playing. He's got Elon. They're going to put them in a rocket ship - call it SpaceMex,'' he quipped. Chris Rock addressed Joe Biden's pardon of Hunter Biden, joking that the president might not have all of his mental faculties, but he can still stick it to people. "I gotta hand it to Joe. He don't move as fast as he used to, he don't talk as fast as he used to," Rock laughed. "But that middle finger still works." The comment elicited some good laughs. Not laughing, however, were leftists on X who suggested Rock needed to be slapped by Will Smith again for daring to make jokes about brain dead democrats.

The take away that authoritarian regimes are weaker than we think is a pretty weak argument of what happened in Syria. In the US, we just had an election where a Fascist won the electoral college and the popular vote. South Korea's President called for martial law and is getting impeached. Romania just had a guy without a political party and win first place in the first round which Romania took the unprecedented move to nullify that election on the grounds of Russian interference and redo the elections, which may anger a lot of voters. Israel is in an open ended war with Hamas, a group they funded in order to prevent a 2 state solution. There's the war in Ukraine that's driving Europe to the right. The takeaway I see from what happened in Syria is that governments all around the world are unstable, democratic or authoritarian. To ignore all what's going on in the democratic sphere to make this about authoritarian regimes is to miss what's happening all around us.

How is it Russia's fault? Russia only had a naval and air presence there. The agreement wasn't for Russia to assist in the ground fighting, but to use air power in supporting Assad's troops, to give them air cover. The Assad troops refused to fight, how is this a fault of Russia? Fareed you're not being honest in your assessment even when you know you're misinforming your viewers. The US chose to work with terrorists (HTS), it's a shame. The leader of this group had a bounty on his head by the US government. Yet today he is the savior to the US government because they wanted Assad gone. It is a shame.

Putin had to cut back his support of Assad because of the failures of his military in Ukraine. The real terrorists were Assad and his secret police. If they want the support of the West to rebuild Syria, they will have to renounce terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism.

Palestinians fought for russia in Ukraine, some died, cheered for the massacres of Jews, for the bombing of Ukraine. Let me know when your palestinians will rise against Hamas and Iranian regime, for their lives and children.. indoctrinated, as russians, tools for Iran who wants an Islamic state in the entire Middle East. What will happen in Syria, it is up to people. After so many deaths an destruction becaus eof Assad and Putler, should think how to keep a long lasting peace. So many dearhs should not be in vain.

HTS is not ISIS. Main core of HTS was once Al-Qaeda but they broke from Al-Qaeda ages ago. A Minority remained Al-Qaedaist but were wiped out in Idlib along with ISIS by HTS/the SSG. SSG was mostly a Moderate Salafist/Islamist/Sufist Organisation ...backed by the Arab States who though Salafist/Wahhabist/Conservative opposed ISIS. Palestine has never been a State & will never be a State. It is nothing but an Arab Colonial-Imperialist Project. Palestine Province of Ottoman Empire was Partitioned after WWI. W. Palestine was restored to the Israeli Nation. E. Palestine given to the Arab Colonists. The Arabs made a Political Decision to call it Jordan. Jordan though is Palestine at the end of the day.
