The OOD of the Fitzgerald disobeyed the CO's standing night orders regarding notification of him of close approaches to other ships. The OOD actions and inactions directly resulted in the loss of 7 lives. He was the one most directly responsible for the collision. So why is his or her identity kept secret while XOs, COs and admirals were named and humiliated publically by loss of commands? Will the OOD be court martialed? Why was the crew of the Fitzgerald sworn to secrecy - not able to discuss what happened including the name of the OOD?

The CNO needs to be Fired also. There is no excuse for him to fire downhill. He is the leader of these Debacles.

My view on this situation is that as a former sailor....there is no excuse for any destroyer to get run over in any ocean or waterway!

When you stop lying, & start telling the truth, maybe I will listen. These accidents were not preventable! They were done on purpose, both times...with the Fitz & then the McCain. It makes me sick the way you blame our sailors for made up incidents, just to fit your narrative...which has so many holes in it. My deepest sympathies to the sailors & family that we have lost...know you are a hero in my eyes.

Ok first off how do you know they were intentional, could you give an in depth explanation on how you came to this conclusion please because I certainly don't know. We all have a right to our own opinion but you have to back it up but, quite frankly the only people who know what happened is the navy so could you elaborate how you came to that conclusion.

www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=103130 inside the first link is the report pdf, there are report pretty detailed. Too bad I don't have any seamanship or military service experience to help me understand the issue. Maybe you can help me with it? I one question I have is that if the team of operator and watchmen didn't able to initiate surface scanning radar or establish communication or emergency maneuvers, how in the world they can get anything done so far? If they don't have proper seamanship then who drives the ship in and out of the port every other time?

coldiceEVO please watch this link, just the tip of the iceburg....if you want the full story, starting with the Fitz, please go back to June with Florida Maquis. Let me know what you think. Thanks kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4C6dmmeaaiXfc0

I think it is pretty helpful. I don't know much about how things works on international maritime course, whether Crystal is making the correct turn or not. I think navy's decision on just kick the officer out is wrong, nor the explanation of lack of training or sleep deprivation is convincing enough. They had stayed on this course for a long time, not the first day on road. Top badge wants this issue to quiet down, the report is 4 month late. Feels really bad for those enlisted, especially ones beneath the water line--you know you will get locked in if there is water coming in from the gap.

coldiceEVO Thanks for taking the time to listen to the link & getting back to me. My son is Navy & that's how I got into this...something isn't quite right, especially with the Fitz. I feel as you for our Sailors who were lost, breaks my heart...that's why the truth is important.
